At Mass last Sunday, the first petition was something like 'for families or marriages in turmoil, that they be given the proper materials......'. My head snapped up and I thought, 'God is talking to ME'. It's been on my heart to pack up the books I have on marriage and print out some information and schedules for Retrovaille and drop it on my parents' doorstep. It never seemed right until that moment in church.
So........I gathered my books, printed the stuff, wrote a very nice, short, funny note about the petition thing, put some chocolate and flowers on top and drove on over to my parents. Hard because we tried to go over for a visit last week and were turned down. I did have some luggage to return to them, so I just set the luggage down, plopped the bag of goodies next to that, gave hugs and kisses and said we needed to run to piano. My obedient (not!) kids were climbing out of the van at this point and, as my parents (they were both there) and I were putting the kids back in the van, I see my mom saying something to my dad. He then walked over to tell me to "BE ENCOURAGED" !! Now I know this is small compared to the huge uphill struggle they have ahead of them, but they could have just as easily told me to get lost! :)
I have a bit of peace today after two weeks of conflicting emotions. Thank you St. Helen, St. Joseph, St. Jude, St. Anne, and all of you!
And, of course, if you could continue to keep them in your prayers, that would be wonderful and comforting.

Erica.......I wonder if they BOTH need to read THE FIVE LOVE LANGUAGES????
Gary Chapman has also written a good book for troubled marriages called.......sheesh, it escapes me right now......oh, I looked it up! It's called Loving Solutions. It was really good......and he talks about why divorce is not a good choice in the first chapter or two. Maybe you could read it a bit.

Thank you all so much for your prayers! I am usually a big, bumbling, tongue-tied person when I try to talk to my parents about anything 'big', so I did really feel good about doing this. Who knows if they are even reading any of it  but that is in God's hands now. I heard, from siblings, some encouraging things, but they have a looooong way to go. Thanks for the book recommendation, Chari. I tried to purchase Greg Popcak's book, For Better....Forever!, from Amazon last Fall, but was unsuccessful. I'm reading his Parenting With Grace book, which is excellent, and he keeps referencing that one!
An older, dear friend, said that when she has a serious prayer request she puts it out to all the religious communities she knows of...I was thinking...I put it out to you wonderful ladies here at Real Learning!
