My daughter Clare is 15. For the past three years she has desired to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation. The local age requirement here is age 16 or 11th grade. Last summer we started petitioning for our parish to make an exception in the age requirement for her sake.
Well, to make a long story short -- it has been a LONG road with many, many obstacles. At this point it doesn't really look like she will be able to be confirmed this spring as she had hoped. She has worked and prayed so hard and now she is impressing me with her mature attitude towards the likely disappointment (we won't totally give up until she IS confirmed, but she had hoped and prepared for this spring)
HOWEVER, she has asked that I ask you all for prayers for this situation. So if you WOULD pray for her intentions and for the will of God... I would be so grateful.

Clare, you can be assured of our prayers. You give me hope in the teens of today
God bless Clare for her beautiful desire to receive Confirmation. It makes me think of the many saints who also desired sacraments early. St. Terese the Little Flower who desired to enter the convent especially young. These must be inspirations of the Holy Spirit.
St. Clare intercede for you!
St. Terese intercede for you!
In all things God's will be done.

Willa,
I will definitely pray for Clare.
How far have you taken this? Canon law states that Confirmation is to be conferred at about the age of discretion (7) -- with "exceptions." In the US, of course, the "exceptions" have been defined individually by each bishop for his own diocese (some summary of that is here:
http://www.setonhome.org/resources/prechild.stm
But the fact remains that canon law is on your side. Baptism is the only "bottom line" requirement for confirmation. Have you gone beyond your bishop?
Prayers for your dear, sweet, spiritually-mature and inspirational daughter are on the way,
I'm sure you already know all this ...

I am writing on Willa's behalf.....hope I represent her well!
Their prayers are being answered in ways very unexpected. Today they are traveling to a retreat, and she would like prayers.
Please keep praying for them!
A grateful friend,

Willa,
How did everything go? Many of our homeschooled children here have recieved confirmation early (our official age is 8th grade or 13yrs I think). Luckily the DRE is my mil and my youngest bil was confirmed in the 8th grade.
Praying for Clare.
God Bless,
Alison

Thank you all for your prayers. Would you please keep praying? I can update on the results next week.
Victoria, coincidentally (or maybe not!) Clare's chosen confirmation name is Mary Therese
Karen, we've talked to St Joseph's Foundation of canon lawyers -- they have been very helpful and kind.
I know that she has a right to receive the Sacrament and that has been our "case"... it's been a frustrating experience, that what the Church and canon law says about this wasn't enough

Friends,
My daughter, my husband and I were all praying to John Paul II (the Great, as Pope Benedict called him!) over that sad weekend in early April when he passed away. I believe he interceded for us in a big way. My daughter Clare Francis was able to be confirmed by a very holy and wonderful archbishop and is now fully initiated into our Catholic faith, confirmation name Mary Therese. God is very good and I know your prayers were directly instrumental. Thank you very much! I just wanted to update so that we could witness that the Lord has unexpected and glorious ways of carrying out His will. I feel I became part of a fairy tale for a few days! The circumstances were quite extraordinary and I really saw the workings of the Holy Spirit! We even had enormous gusts of wind during the confirmation.
Also, I wouldn't be surprised if John Paul isn't someday, perhaps soon, known as Saint JPII the Great! My husband read an article that mentioned some healing miracles attributed to him while he was still living.
God bless!

Willa,
I am thrilled to read that she was confirmed!! Alleluia!!
For future reference, the age in our diocese is no younger than 9th grade, however our 2 eldest (4th & 5th grades) will be making their confirmations this upcoming May 15th. We sent a letter to our Bishop, citing canon 891 of the Code of Canon Law which states that the Sacrament of Confirmation in the Latin Rite shall be conferred between the age of discretion and about sixteen years of age, within the limits determined by the diocesan bishop and with regard for the legitimate exceptions given in canon 891. Furthermore, the Code legislates that Sacred Ministers may not deny the Sacraments to those who opportunely ask for them, are properly disposed and are not prohibited by law from receiving them (cf. can. 843 &1).
I hope this helps!
Blessings,
Brenda (mom to 6)

Dear Willa,
Thank you for sharing this beautiful witness. I will hold it in my heart as we deal with the details of my daughter's Confirmation, which will not be straight forward either.
Love,
