Dear Friends,
Can I ask for prayers for this upcoming year? I have decided after much vacillation to bring my 15 yr old son back home after a year in public high school.
My husband is not quite on board and I am feeling very nervous about it. (This is not the easiest child ) But no matter how I look at it, I cannot justify putting him back in the school he was in and we don't have another option.
So, if you could prayer for a couple specific things for me:
For me, that I can be firm and organized.
For our family, that we will experience a year of peace and closeness.
For my son, that he find an interest in his future and be willing to work toward a goal.
Thanks so much!

Molly,
I can certainly understand your concerns and worries. We're getting ready to start high school at home with our oldest son (14). He's wanting to be Mr. Independent and we've just moved back to the Baltimore/DC area...not too safe...
So...I'll be offering up quite a few sacrifices for your prayer intention! (Especially the dh part...I know how much it will mean to you to have him fully on board...)
I know it's not easy to make this leap of faith. I share your worries! I know you're doing the best possible thing. Ask God to send you some confirmations that you're on the right road.
Here's mine for this week...we're at my husband's change of command reception (he was the outgoing commanding officer) and some friends from another duty station graciously came to the event. They have lived where we are now (MD) and asked for specific directions to our house. When I mentioned a certain convenience store (local landmark), they said, "Oh, we know that place! It's where the high school students always call in the bomb threats from the pay phone so they won't have to go to school that day!"
Guess God wants me to homeschool for 9th grade...!!!!
Hugs and prayers,

Praying for all your intentions, Molly. It's obvious that you are doing your prayerful best in a challenging situation.

Nancy,
That's pretty funny! Couldn't get any clearer than that, huh?!
Other than the periodic moments of panic throughout the day (like when I starting looking throught his geometry book last night ) I feel like a weight has been lifted by making this decision.
It will not be easy. But, at least when I have to face God, I can say I did my best for this child of His.
The clincher for me was the reading Sunday about the millstone around your neck rather than scandalizing a child. I might "ruin his life" but I will not take another chance with his soul while it is still on my watch.
Just to clarify, though, I am not condemning all public school for all kids. This is just the case for my kid.

Oh I found one Sunday while looking at the KMart ad: Girls t-shirts with various slogans (all pretty dumb) pictured for your back-to-school buying frenzy, and one shows a picture of a cute little skunk and the slogan says: "Boys Stink." I kid you not.
Molly, you're in my prayers quite frequently. You may have a tough row to hoe (many of us will) but you can come back for support and prayers as often as need be!

O, that is so bad - how could anyone say that about my gorgeous boys.
Molly, I think you are on the right track - there is so much going on in high school that sheer protection of our dc's souls often is a priority.
Now, I know many schools and dc are different but I think there is value in a home environment in the high school years.

Now that I have definitely made my decision, my son is having a fit. He didn't seem to mind the idea when he thought I wouldn't go through with it.
Please pray for me as I withstand this storm!

Molly, I will continue to pray hard during the Rosary.
And take care of yourself, too!
