I wrote this out last night, but I don't see that it posted anywhere somehow.
Anyway, my friend, who is also my boss, is married to Joe, who has muscular dystrophy, diagnosed in his late 20's. At the time they were told it wouldn't impact his life severely for a long time, but it has progressed far faster than they were led to believe. He is mid-40's now and has been in a wheelchair 2 yrs and has heart problems from it. He's now in ICU b/c his diaphragm muscles are failing and he can't breathe. The doctor is trying a by-pap machine (I think that's what it's called; it's not a C-pap) to get his CO2 levels down (they're extrememly high and he is barely conscious) but if not, they will need to put in a permanent tracheostomy and put him on a ventilator. Needless to say, Nancy is quite stressed right now; she was not prepared to have to deal with this so soon. They are not sure if they will go the vent route if that becomes necessary; Joe is telling Nancy it's *her* decision and that makes it even harder for her. They have two boys, 9 and 14. Please pray for a miracle for Joe and peace for Nancy.

Oh Karen, I'll be praying for Nancy and her husband Joe and for their children. I'm sure they're stressed, too...
God bless,
Angela

UPDATE!
I believe your prayers have really helped! Yesterday Joe had a really really bad day, and they were discussing wills, etc. Today, he showed substantial improvement to the point that the doctor said the machine is doing what they want and they think he will be able to come home on it, and maybe live another year or so! Truly must be a miracle! the only fly in the ointment right now is that the doctor says he has to stay in the hospital until he learns to use the machine and it might be months! I hope that's not the case, but things are still far better than they were a few days ago. Thank you everyone.

I wanted to give another update to my request. After the turnaround, Joe continued to improve so much they let him go home last week. I saw him at home when I took them dinner and he looks very good, considering all he's been through. he's now using the by-pap machine at home as needed, and has to have continual oxygen (trailing lines around the house behind his wheelchair) but considering how dire things were just a few weeks ago, everyone is thrilled.
Thank you so much for your prayers and please mention them again when you think of it, b/c this crisis will certainly come around again. But the doctor has said he might have another year or year and a half.
Thanks,
Karen T
