I haven't posted in a LONG time, but I need prayers for perseverance. My father had a stroke 3 years ago, so he moved in with us, as he needed assistance with everything and all daily needs. He now is completely bedridden with a fungating ulcer on top of his head due to skin cancer and it now has metastasized to his brain. He has no bowel or bladder control, so my teens and I are changing his bed 3 to 4 times a day. He is on hospice and has a bath aide and a wound change nurse. His cancer smells SO bad, and I am using that suffering to aid my siblings (my brother committed suicide 3 years ago, and my sister hung herself one year ago). It has been a rough road, but God has been good and has given me patience. I just get SO tired!! My teens are burned out too. Since my Dad is 6 foot 2, it takes at least 2 people to clean and hold him. I am still homeschooling too!! Thank you so much for your prayers and God bless you. Bridget

Dear Bridget
I will pray for you. My mother too is on hospice and the last few months have been so exhausting and stressful. My dad is fragile too. Bless you and your teens for all you do. My teens and little ones have learned some wonderful lessons in kindness and compassion and care for the fragile - more important than all the calculus in the world!
Our situation is not as tough as yours - bless you. I know the exhaustion and burned out feeling with homeschooling and little ones and big ones and older parents.
You are a wonderful pro-life witness - caring for the elderly is the other side of pro-life. What a great example for your children too.
Hugs to you. Hang in there. Praying that someone will give you a break. (work with hospice - they are supposed to take care of the caregivers)

This is the stuff saints are made from! I had tears reading about what you are going through and have gone through with your siblings. These life lessons will stay with your children forever, like Marilyn said, longer than any school lesson. I hope you can get a little help even just one day would probably be very helpful and give you a chance to catch up. I know for children there is a resource that give respite help. Do you think there is something like that for adults? Or maybe hospice could do more. What is the prognosis for your dad?
God bless you and your amazing teens!

**UPDATE**
My Dad passed away on May 30th. It has been extremely difficult, but peaceful for me. We have all grown from this, but are now learning how to live a "Normal" (whatever that is!!) life.
I mourn the loss of a wonderful man. They sure don't make them like that anymore. He was a great Dad, and spent every day off with us...hiking, fishing, ice skating, horseback riding. He was always so positive and friendly, and everyone he came into contact with, just loved him. We worked together as chiropractors, and had a lot of fun together until he had his stroke. We cared for him and loved him, but the last days were tough, as I could see him struggling with his dignity. It was so difficult, but all your prayers sustained me and my teens. He was definitely loved and spoiled.
Right now I am trying to destress. My brother committed suicide 4 years ago, and my sister a year ago. Add that to marriage issues, plus caring for my Dad, and it has been one, big, huge Cross. I sold our office, so I had to mourn for the loss of a career. Being a stay at home Mama though is wonderful and a blessing. I am just trying to now live life without the heaviness of it all.
I am peaceful, but I do worry about the impact on my teens. They have been absolutely wonderful, but are tired of it all, too, as we were close to my brother and sister, their uncle and aunt.
Please continue to pray for our family. I know there are a lot of people who need prayers, but just a small one would do.
And keep my Dad in the Holy Souls prayers. I did a Gregorian set of Masses for him, and pray for him daily, but he could always use prayers.
Thank you so much for being a support to me. Reading all of your kind words helped me this morning.
God bless, Bridget

Praying for you, your children and family!! What a huge load of suffering you all have been enduring. May Our Lord and Our Lady hold you close and bring you peace and comfort as you strive to de-stress and bear the sorrows and burdens He has allowed you during this time in your lives. May God bless you all abundantly for the great sacrifices you have made for others in your lives these last few years!!!
