Thanks, all, for your recent prayers for my 21-year-old daughter. They have been answered, beautifully, and I am so grateful to all of you for holding her up in prayer.
Can I add one more intention for her today? She's developed terrible tendonitis in her right hand/wrist, as a result of lots of writing, typing, and -- recently -- ceramics work. The other day, she said, she woke up with her right hand horribly swollen and painful. One doctor visit later she has a wrist brace and some prescription-strength ibuprofen, but yesterday she was still in a lot of pain. Her second round of senior English comps was scheduled for tomorrow, but fortunately she's gotten them moved to next week, and she'll be allowed to type them instead of hand-writing them, which is a major blessing. Please would you pray that the worst inflammation subsides, so that the pain isn't a distraction as she's writing her essays?
Also: I'm sitting here trying not to freak out over the letter that came today for my 17yo, from the admissions office at Virginia Military Institute. This is his first and only college choice. It seems like a really small, thin envelope to be an acceptance letter. He's at the Abbey with my husband, and they won't be home till late this afternoon, so I'm trying to leave it all in the Sacred Heart of Jesus (like, I literally held the envelope up to my icon and said, "HERE!") until they get home. My son's a really outstanding student with good test scores, dual-enrollment credits, everything going for him, but you know, it might not be God's will for him to go to this particular college next year. I'm worried about how crushed he'll be if this is so, though, and would appreciate your prayers for peace and acceptance for all of us.
Thank you so much. Offering my freaky day for your intentions.
Sally

My husband says the VMI letter may well just be a form saying that his file is complete. I don't know if my nerves can take it! :)
Thank you al for your prayers.

Praying for your intentions.
May I offer a suggestion for your daughter? I, too was having tendonitis/arthritis pain and numbness in my wrists (later it expanded to other joints). I gave up nightshade vegetables and all of the symptoms disappeared. Completely. I added them back one at a time and found that I cannot tolerate potatoes - the symptoms reappear very quickly.
Also, i pray all goes well with your son and VMI. My son is a 2012 graduate. IIRC, his acceptance letter was just a letter. Once they receive his confirmation to attend, then the rest of the documents come. VMI has generous scholarships, definitely pursue those. Also, the nearby parish in Lexington is a wonderful support for the cadets. The y take particularly good care of the "rats" through host families. Let me know if I can help with any questions.

Diana, thank you so much for all of that! I will relay the nightshade info to my daughter.
And the VMI letter -- I can now report, having waited for everyone to get home so the right person could open it -- was an invitation to an upcoming Institute Scholars interview weekend. So he hasn't gotten an acceptance yet, but he is getting invited to interview for scholarships, which we all figure is good news.
I would love to know more about your son's VMI experience. It's been really the only college on my son's list for a couple of years now. I think on every level it would be a very good fit and experience for him -- and Lexington is so beautiful! And not so far away for us. I'm going down to visit the daughter in Dallas week after next, for the FIRST TIME since we left her at UD as a freshman, because NC and Texas are just not so very close! I'm really looking forward to it -- she says all her friends want to have a drink with me, which warms my heart! (Yes, they're all 21) I want to meet them before they all scatter. But I can envision actually going to Lexington, VA, more than once in the course of four years . . .
Again, thank you all for your prayers.
Sally

Thanks! Ongoing prayers definitely appreciated, both for this tendonitis issue and the college acceptance. I feel sure he'll get in, but you know, until you get the actual letter . . .
:)
Thank you all again.

Thank you all. Please keep them coming. Here's the latest in this comps saga:
So, she went to take the first round of her "accommodated" comps on Tuesday night and discovered that one of the questions was incomplete -- it was a question where they were supposed to compare two passages, but whoever had set the test up had forgotten to include the passages they were supposed to be writing about. She asked the grad-student proctor what to do -- they couldn't roust up any actual professor to make a call on it -- and he finally said, "Just write something. It'll be fine."
So she did. It was all she could do. Yesterday she got an email from her advisor "inviting" her (and the others) to come back and retake the question -- on Friday night. (as if they had failed the question, she said). She's sitting what was supposed to be the final round tonight, as in right now, and I pray that she's calmed down between then and now, because she sure wasn't calm yesterday, and I pray that the pain in her wrists lets up. It's been pretty bad, apparently. It would be lovely if the department also would just pass the question *they* messed up and let the students move on and be done with this ordeal . . .
I'm going down next week to see her, which I hope is good timing. Gotta think of lots of goodies to take. But meanwhile, if you've got a moment to join me in slathering on the prayers, I would be so grateful. She is taking this round right now (7:36 ET), so if you happen to see this in the next several hours, please offer something up for her.
Thank you again so much. Prayers for all of you.
Sally

Bumping yet again to beg your prayers for her for this last "extra" round tonight. As far as I know, they still have to come back to redo this question that was given them in incomplete form on Tuesday.
I haven't talked to her since Wednesday, but she was kind of understandably on the point of breakdown then. I've very concerned by how her emotions over all this are affecting her performance in her other classes. She tends to stress out, and to let her stress color everything.
Thank you so much. She's had such a good four years, but now I think we're all at the "transition" point in college labor . . . I'm as ready for her to be done and out as she is.
Thank you again. Remembering intentions here in my prayers today.
Sally

Praying today. I am sure the start of Lent didn't help any of this either!

Let's just say that fasting did not make Wednesday's news of having to retake that question go down any easier.
And thank you!

Many thanks for your prayers. Comps are DONE! She took the last round a week after she was supposed to have finished, but got through them with minimal pain and is happy to have them behind her. Thank you again so much for prayers in that department.
AND we got the VMI acceptance letter! He's in! Now he just has to get through the scholarship interviews.
Again, many, many thanks for your prayers. Praying for all of you.
Sally
