I need to say that I have the most loving, caring, hardworking, husband a woman could ever had. He has literally saved my life on several occasions-and he is always there for his children, whether still young or grown to adulthood.
Lately dh is very down in the dumps and very sad. He blames himself entirely for our financial troubles. (He realized that it is almost impossible to purchase necessary items such as groceries and socks and underwear--let alone school supplies.
I just don't know what to do for him. He works so hard, but that can't fix our troubles right now. He won't ask for help and he doesn't want me to receive help, although our priest gave me some money for groceries and dh seemed almost relieved.
Specific prayers, specific saints, more concrete ideas...how to I treat and encourage the children to treat him.
It is very hard to see him in such a bad way.
St. Joseph, Pray for my husband.

Joann, your family inspires me every day. I know it's hard for you to watch your husband work so hard and feel so discouraged. I don't have any profound words of wisdom, but I do have a lot of prayers to offer, and I will do that.
I also know that when my husband is discouraged by his work situation, I need to find ways for him to connect with his friends and relax. (He is a super-extrovert and I am an introvert, so I find this challenging, but I know that it works for him.) We don't do anything elaborate or expensive (Bring Your Own Meat grilling works well, for example), but it's all about giving him down/friend time.
If your husband is not an extrovert, you could, instead, give him a Dad's Sunday Afternoon Off or Dad's Private [library, computer, hiking, anything that makes him happy] Time - cost-free except for transportation/computer/electrical costs - or have the kids help with a special Dad's Awesome Day breakfast - or whatever. It's about giving Dad some relaxation time in a way that works best within your family's dynamic.
PS...Our beloved husbands, who want to emulate St. Joseph, face a terrifically difficult set of obstacles in our modern world. Please tell your husband that my family appreciates his dedication to all of you and that we will continue to pray for him each day.

Praying for your dh and your family! Be sure to remind your husband to be open to gifts that God will send (surely with everyone praying for you, gifts will be received). Also, be sure to remind him that this is temporary and he will be able to pay back all the gifts he receives in the future.

I know exactly what you are talking about. I need a ream of paper...
The cross that large families carry is great, and God knows it. He is with you and will provide when needed. God is in control of our finances, not us. If your dh could understand this, he might let up on himself. And to practice charity, there has to be someone to receive it. If everyone is too proud to receive a charitable gift, no one would ever be able to blot out their sins by giving to the less fortunate. Humbly providing a way for others to give is just as virtuous.
My prayers for your dh, I know how hard this can be.

Dear Joann,
It is so hard to see our husbands like this. Mine is, too. Know that you are not alone in your struggles. Even though our financial struggles have been going on for a number of years, to varying degrees, I realized on day that I'd rather have financial troubles than many of the other troubles we could have.
God is walkig with you both and your family. You have our prayers.
Love,

Praying here also, we feel the same way as of late. Things just seem to be low or steady lately never better. Then one day something wonderful happens and it seems like something else takes all the joy away. Stay strong and pray. HUGS
