On November 1, dh was hit by some one running a red light. His vehicle was hit broad side and rolled. By miracle, he pulled himself out of the vehicle and 'walked away'.
I am most grateful that he isn't hospitalized. He didn't really walk away. He has injured his shoulder and is off work for at least 4 weeks. He is in physio 4 times a week. He has also been diagnosed with a concussion, which is proving to be very challenging as his short term memory is affected, and he has trouble finding words. He is being scheduled for an MRI. In a pre-mri study to be sure there was no metal in his eyes, they also xrayed his knee. He broke off 1/2 inch piece of his knee cap, which will require surgery to remove it because there is a risk of it getting into the joint, which would cause a whole new set of issues. They are now taking him seriously, and xraying his elbow and ankle, they thought everything was just muscle soreness from the accident, as the man has a high pain tolerance.
I am so overwhelmed with everything happening. Dealing with the insurance, running interference with his frustration and the teens. Keeping him on track and on schedule with all his appointments. Recording any symptoms that come up. With homeschooling and the home daycare. I'd take time off, but we need to pay the bills somehow as he won't receive any disability pay for a couple weeks yet.
I am thankful he's home, it could have been so much worse, but it's still all so stressful.

Thanks be to God he is alive! When you said hit broadside, I feared the worst.
With such a narrow escape and all the health issues coming to light, it sounds like a very hard time. I will be praying he makes a full recovery!

Thank you, everyone. Can I request prayers for our financial well-being as well? We likely won't see any disability for another 2 or 3 weeks. While I have a little in the bank, it won't last more than a few weeks if dh doesn't have anything coming in. I have enough for groceries for the rest of the month and to cover the mortgage. All bills for November were paid at the beginning of the month, so we are ok for now. But if it takes longer that 3 weeks, things will get behind, and that scares me.
I have found myself in front of the Blessed sacrament praying more and more in the last 2 weeks, trying not to fret over these things.
Dh did retain a lawyer, and it's a relief to have some one to deal with the paperwork and phone calls. I'm scared to answer questions on the forms, if wrong, it can mess the claim up. There are so many intricacies. The lawyer is a Christian man who has spoken of Faith on the local radio here :) he seems like a good man.

Will continue to pray for his healing, your financial needs, and for peace of mind. That is such a stressful and scary event. Take care of yourself, too!

A little miracle happened this weekend. After a most stressful Friday, I told dh that I was going to speak to a dad at the hockey team. The girls are friends, they go to Challenge together, he happens to be a doctor. I needed to know if he know of anyone that could see dh and give him a second opinion on his injuries as the doctor and physio isn't listening to his concerns, or if they are, they aren't talking to him. He's frustrated, add that to the head aches from the concussion creates a very difficult situation.
He asked a few little questions and said the following. "I'll tell you what,I'm going to email you my information, and you get the doctor, physio or a chiropractor to refer him to me. I'm a specialist, but i can't see him with out the referral."(these are the rules of our health care insurance) I was SHOCKED. I asked his field, and he said sports medicine and rehab medicine, with a focus on concussion recovery as well. This is where dh needs to be. The clinic has physio, physiatrist, psychologist, psychiatrist, radiologist, etc. He comes with an impressive resume, as well as being a doctor for professional sport teams. I NEVER expected that when I asked to talk to him. I just wanted to know if he knew anyone that is taking new patients, as all the good doctors here are not, it seems. Yet I was led to the right person!! Praise God!!
I am much relieved, I know it can be some weeks to get him in, but he said once that referral letter goes out, let him know and he'll try to expedite it as much as he can. I am so thankful! I want dh well and back to 'normal'. It's a difficult set of circumstances here. I know now we need to get the gp to get the referral letter done, but we have a few things we can do if he isn't willing. I don't think it will be a problem however, as dh has been there 5 times in 2 weeks and back again tomorrow. He might want to just be rid of him.
Thank you for all your prayers!!! Keep them coming please, they are greatly appreciated

He is going to be off until January at least. : (
At least his doctor was willing to write up the referral but we don't know how long it will be to see him. Long wait times. But I will speak to specialist once he gets the file and he promised to try to get him in sooner with the cancellation list

Thank you everyone. We have heard from the specialist, he emailed to say his office should be calling soon to book an appointment. Dh spirits are a little better, which makes a world of difference in the home, he had a short visit with a friend fighting prostate cancer, who is full of life and joy, and I think it rubbed off a bit and put it in perspective. It's hard, but it's not potentially fatal.

Small miracles!
We got dh MRI date, today it is Jan 19. I called and got him on the cancellation list, he got in today.
We got a letter from the specialist, he will go in less than 3 weeks! So much for the 1-2 YEARS dh's doctor said!
His disability was approved for short term disability.
I can breathe a little.
Thank you for prayers! So grateful.
