Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I know dh just left and I should give myself some time to adjust, but I really need some prayers. I've been feeling so down and can't seem to shake this feeling of impending doom. It's probably why my children are so cranky and fighting all the time. I need to get myself on an even keel emotionally. It's just been so hard. Everyone thinks I'm such a strong person and I am, but this deployment has leveled me. I've never reacted this way before.

The whole six months (and it's not even a whole year) is looming ahead of me and I feel so overwhelmed. It feels like a mountain I have to climb. I'm not normally an anxious person, but I feel such anxiety. Please tell me it's normal.

I have no experience at all with what you are experiencing. I feel down whenever dh has a business trip of more than an overnight- certainly nothing like your concerns. I can offer prayers, though, which are certainly coming your way.

Praying here, KC. I've never been in your position so I wouldn't know. Two weeks without hubby is eternity for me so I can't imagine what you might be feeling. I will keep you and your children in our prayers, as well as your hubby, for a safe return home.

Dear KC,
You're normal. I've never had my husband leave for that long, that far away, and that dangerous a trip. But my father did it frequently. What you are endeavoring to undertake requires a superhuman strength. Forget the mountain; you are about to spend six months on your knees. We'll be pryaing for you too! I know I can speak for Angie when I assure you that the two of us will bump this thread up frequently and you can rest assured each day of the prayers of this group of ladies. I also flagged the post with some veteran military wives who might be better able to empathize and provide some practical suggestions.

Yes your feelings are absolutely normal! In fact it is worse right at the beginning because the emotions are so new and raw yet. You will settle in bit by bit though these feelings can take you by surprise at odd times when songs play on the radio or whatnot.

I had my last baby while my husband was in Iraq the year before last. Please feel free to email me privately and I can send you my phone number if you like. Tap into your support systems like you just did! You need that for the low days. Be very careful about the tv and newspapers. I set my cpu home page to a craft site for the whole deployment and worked very hard at distracting myself.

It can be done! Acknowledging the very real pain and worry is the first step. Letting others help you is the next. : )

God Bless,

Thank you to everyone for your prayers. Today, I'm feeling a lot stronger. I was able to speak with dh today before he went into formation to prepare to leave. He sounded strong.

Culturally, I've been taught to not burdern people with my worries. So, although I am a stronger person, at times when I do need the emotional support from people, I find it difficult to ask for help. Even today when I'm still feeling a bit shaky, I've been telling my mom that I am okay. I didn't want to worry her. I asked for prayers last night when I was at my breaking point. I also was flipping through the TV and stopped momentarily at ER. I don't normaly watch that show anymore, but stopped. Well, wouldn't you know it, two Army guys were informing one of the doctors that her Army doctor husband was killed in action. She told them they made a mistake because he's a doctor not a "soldier soldier". Well, everything I had been holding in came pouring out.

Thank you, Kim for your offer. I may take you up on it. I have a media blackout here and I have informed everyone I know that I do. I thank God for these forums.

KC, I'm sorry you had to bump into that ER episode.    Be assured of prayers here, for you and your little ones. My bil is in the Army, and has had several long-term deployments, in his career. I know from my sil that those times can be challenging, but you can survive. I'm so glad you've asked for prayers, this is a powerful group of ladies!

KC, praying for you. My husband is in the AF and went (for not nearly as long as a deployment) last year. Feel free to give me a call (well, PM me and we can exchange numbers) and I'd be happy to lend an ear, or two.

Typed words seem inadequate, so I'll close with the opening. Praying for you, your children, and your dh.

Absolutely! KC, you have been in my prayers and thoughts...within the past few weeks, my husband has been asked to help spearhead a group that will formalize and coordinate future deployments within the Public Health Service. Every time I hear the word "deployment," which is often these days, I offer a prayer for your family.

Thank you, KC, for all the sacrifices your family is making. Know that you have friends here who want to help share your load.

Love, a fellow strong gal who every so often just can't take it anymore and needs sympathy and reassurance ...

KC, you are in my prayers. Thank you for confiding in us.

(Truthfully, I worry every time my husband gets on a plane, and his trips are usually fairly short.)
