Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Please pray for two different Catholic women and their unborn babies. Both babies have been diagnosed with Trisomy 13.

Both are about half way through their pregnancies. One is a sister of a woman in our hsing group and one is a relative of my good friend.

Both are not sure how long the babies will live and are trying to prepare themselves and their families for the sadness of possibly losing their babies. I understand that most babies with this genetic disorder do not live very long. There is much support for both families but they could use our prayers as well.

An update on one of these families. Becky and John are due with their baby girl on August 3. They are asking prayers for her. They have named her Megan Grace.

"Our baby girl does infact have a rare genetic condition called Trisomy 13, also called T13. It is an extra 13th chromosome. Instead of having two 13th chromosomes, Megan has three 13th chromosomes. Because Megan’s extra chromosome duplicated themselves in every cell of her body, it is not compatible with life. In the absence of a miracle, our Megan will go home to Jesus soon after she’s born. Sadly too, 30% of T13 babies are called home to Heaven before they are born. We are asking God to give us the gift of hours and hopefully a few days to spend with Megan Grace."

Thank you all for your continued prayers. I will update this post with any news from either of the families when I can.

Love,

One of the mothers recently gave birth to her daughter who was delivered stillborn. I do not have the baby's name yet but I am asking for prayers for the parents and family members who a grieving.

The second mother (Becky) is going to be induced on Thurday, July 20th at 10 am. Her baby, Megan, is still doing well in utero. Please pray for this beautiful family, for Megan's siblings and parents, who hope to have some time with her after her birth.

Thank you so much,

Rebecca,

Trisomy 13 is what we have lost all nine of our angel babies to (we have three blessings here with us). I have a "balanced translocation" of chromosomes number 13 & 14, and so our babies can either have too many, not enough, or absolutely none of those chromosomes...and it is just roulette. I know the pain that your friends are suffering. Our last baby was lost last June, at 19 1/2 weeks--and a second trimester loss, for us, was infinitely more difficult than the other 8 first trimester losses.

I don't know how to do that fancy link thing, but here's a website for information on Trisomy 13, that includes some information about children who have lived past the "norm" of less than 1 year, if they survive the birth process. The website might be helpful to your friends. If you think it won't after you check it out, please feel free to not pass it on--I just wanted to offer it, as it is very educational.

Your friends will be in my prayers. I will offer this other information, too, since your friends are Catholic--I just posted info about it somewhere on these boards yesterday--The Church of the Holy Innocents in New York City. You can have the child's name inscribed in the Book of Life, and prayers and Masses are offered continually for these children. All nine of ours are inscribed there. Here's the link to that:

Please let us know how your dear friends are doing.

God bless,
Sarah
