Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Could I please ask your prayers for my oldest daughter, who's having a rough week at college, and a difficult semester overall. She's taking two history classes (one with two big research papers) and a lit course in the novel, so has hundreds of pages of reading every week, as well as German and biology, with which she struggles (bio, not German so much -- that's her bright spot right now).

This week she has lots of tests. She called last night in tears, saying that her bio test had gone badly, despite all the work she had done, and now she felt behind in everything else.

She's a sophomore and made Dean's List last year, so has kind of set herself a high bar to try to meet in a semester with a hard, heavy load. I'm encouraging her not to think she *has* to make As in everything, though she does have the added pressure of needing to keep her scholarship and make the grades needed to stay in the UD Rome program for next semester.

Anyway, we're carrying her in prayer here at home, but would surely appreciate some extra shoulders!

Thank you.

Sally

Thank you all so much! Haven't heard from her today, so I hope things were better. She does tend to catastrophize a bit, and tie herself up in knots over things -- I'm really wishing that she'd get, or give herself, a break somewhere.

Again, thanks for your prayers.

Sally

Dear Sally, praying for her. May she find peace this week and not forget all of her accomplishments thus far.

Thanks again so much. I hope she's feeling the love!

UD just is tough, and she really loaded herself up this semester. Back when she was registering, it all looked so fun -- Western Civ! Anglo-Saxon history (her favorite class, but it's upper-division and tons of work, with 70 pages of the Venerable Bede to read every week and two research papers)! Novels! German! And . . . biology, because she has to take it. Plus violin and chamber ensemble, for which she's struggling to find time to practice, because everyone else seems so effortlessly *good.* She's a smart kid, but not so smart that she can breeze through things without lots of work to master the material, and she's really feeling it, especially as her best friends don't seem to be doing all that much work. She's always the one dragging herself off to study while they play, or so it seems to her. So there is a tiny bit of a "poor-me" element to all this, too.

Again, though, I'm hoping that the clouds will lift soon, and I thank you all for your prayers for her.

Sally

Thank you all again. I spoke to my daughter yesterday, and things were much better. The bio test did go badly, but other tests went well, and she was feeling far less out of control than she had been -- it really unnerves her not to feel totally on top of all her work. These little humility wake-up calls are never much fun.

Again, thank you all! Praying for all of you as well.

Sally

Thanks! I just booked her on the Megabus to Memphis for next weekend, where we'll all be converging for a dear friend's wedding -- even an all-night bus ride sounded pretty good to her, which really says something (!), and we can't wait to see her.

Thanks again, for all your prayers.

Sally
