I almost hate to ask because I'm aware that some husbands are (and have been) out of a job, but I feel compelled to ask anyway.
The company my dh works for will vote on the 5-yr contract in a few weeks. Everyday the news gets a little worse.
There is a smaller sister plant in West Virginia that went on strike for 5 months on the same contract.
My dh suspects the workers here will strike as well. They are fighting for the next generation (our sons and grandsons) coming into the workforce. Especially over this new Two-Tier Plan which basically allows the company CEOs to get richer and new hired-on workers to get less.
My dh is worried that if they strike, they will still get the same contract 5-6 months down the road that they are trying to fight now. You simply can't win with Big Business...union or no.
What makes my dh fighting mad is how much $$$ the company is making. The money is rolling in but the company is wanting to deny new employees full benefits and good salaries. Companies seem to be yanking benefits out from under everyone's feet...while the CEOs ride high-on-the-hog having a feast in glutton and greed. Do I hear a parable in there?
We're fortunate in the fact that dh had the ability and foresight to start a sideline business after the hurricane that will cover our bills if they strike. (The company has never gone on strike before but we must prepare.) But our benefits (notably health insurance) will be void until the strike ends.
He also spoke to a fellow KC member last night who told him they are hurting in his field (Instrumentation) at this time and, if they strike, he could put Mark to work immediately. The recent hurricanes have opened up jobs galore in our area.
Still, I would appreciate prayers that (1) they don't stike (2) the strike ends quickly
It's never easy to cut-back but I feel it might be a blessing in a way. We have become much too lax around here with our spending habits. It will be humbling to cut back and have to tighten our belts again.

Strikes are never fun - although unfortunately they can be necessary.
Praying for you and yours Cay.

I need to bump this for more prayers.
Dh called and part of the contract has been released. Doesn't sound good. They'll know the rest by Friday and vote on Monday.
He's stressed and it makes me nervous.

Praying for you and your husband, Cay.
This kind of confusion and "stirring of the pot" money stress is just one more way the devil gets at families, don't you think.
We'll beat him back!
