Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

My son just moved 600 miles from home. He's very happy where he's living (with my best friend and her husband ), and he's found some wonderful parishes nearby, but at some point he's going to feel lonely and homesick.

I know he's not alone. Perhaps we could join in prayer for our college students as the new semester begins...

Heavenly Father, protect our college students from harm as they begin a new school year. Send forth Your Spirit upon them and give Your gifts to them as they begin a new year of study. Lead them to Your altar, O Lord, and invite them anew to share in Your Heavenly sacrifice and banquet. Bless their discernment and their studies each and every week and be with them as they study, pray and work.

We beseech You, O Heavenly Father, to extend your protective, loving arm over our college students, studying near and far. Keep them safe from physical, spiritual and emotional harm. Listen to their prayers, we beg, and grant those prayers if they are in accordance with Your will.

Bless and comfort the parents and siblings of our college students, we pray. As our Blessed Mother and St. Joseph learned, children follow God's call, and we parents must listen for God's word in those situations. Speak clearly to us parents, we pray, so that we may support our children as they respond to Your call.

We ask all of these things and we pray for the safety of our children through Our Lord, Jesus Christ, Who understands all our needs.

Amen.

Yes, even the ones who've doing this for a few years. Got one leaving for his last 2 semesters. Boy does the time fly by.

Thanks for posting this, Nancy. Sam starts next week and even though he is commuting, I am feeling a bit weepy and anxious. This year means many changes in our family dynamics as the our first starts college...I’m praying for all of you as well!
