Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Could you please pray for my mother and father? My father suffers from severe Alzheimer's and has been in the hospital this last week being evaluated. My mother is on her way to a meeting with the dr. in which it will be recommended that he be committed to a memory care unit. My mother wants him to be home, but isn't able to care for him there as she used to be able to do. She is very upset, fearful, and angry about the whole situation. It is just heartbreaking, as he is still aware enough to know where he is and that he is not at home, which is where he wants to be. He just keeps pleading with her, "Take me home!", but it's too much for her at her place in life now.

Please pray that the Lord would bless her with peace and acceptance of this suffering and that she would turn to Him and rely upon Him. She believes in God, but has never been church-going and so has no wider Christian community to support her now. Pray that my sisters and brother who are driving her to the meeting would have the right words to say, and also that I would speak according to God's will during the meeting itself (I'll be conferenced in). Send us Your Peace, Jesus!

I am praying. The cross of Alzheimer's is so very, very heavy.

May God comfort your parents during this difficult meeting.

My heart aches for your parents and your family. Will pray for peace and God to lead them to the right choices to be placed before them at this time.

Thank you all so much. The meeting went well and we will be working with Mom this week to decide whether he ought to stay home or not. She will need to give up some control and allow 24/7 care help into her home if she hopes to keep him at home, so please pray that she will be able to do that. It is very hard for her.

Thank you again for your prayers!

Caroline,

We went through this with my grandparents and it was so very hard for them both!

Please be assured of my continual prayers for this situation and your whole family.

Praying for both your mother and father and for the entire family, as well as grace-filled, positive care-giving options that best serve the needs of everyone involved, especially your parents.

Caroline,

I am praying for your parents! This decision is heart-breaking.

My aunt and uncle went through this, with my aunt the one who was suffering from alzheimer's. They had no children, but all the family had urged my uncle, for years, to please put my aunt into a home, much like the one recommended for your dad. He felt my aunt was still fine, and that he could manage, until a frigid winter night. He woke up to find my aunt outside on the front porch, stepping in and out of the snow. The snow had confused her, thank goodness!, and she did not go any further from the porch. But my uncle was left wondering, what if he hadn't woken up at that point, and she had stayed on the porch all night (in her nightgown,) or what if there hadn't been snow, or it hadn't deterred her from going wherever she had planned.

I will keep your parents, along with you, in my prayers...this is such a hard diagnosis and time for everyone! I'm so sorry that you all are having to go through this.

In Christ,

Caroline, I will pray for your parents, and you... This is so hard, I know.
