One of my best friends is battling cancer … for the third time. The first time, it showed up in her thyroid. That was two years ago. Doctors removed her thyroid and her voice was forever altered due to some of the tumor stretching the vocal cords out beyond capacity. The second time, she had a softball-sized mass in her uterus. She had a total hysterectomy and a summer full of chemotherapy.   This time, she has two tumors near her spine, one of which is twining itself around her spine. She is currently unable to walk, as the bigger of the masses is pressing on her nerves. The doctor does not suspect a third primary cancer but that this is mestasis of the leiomyosarcoma.

The current plan is for her to take spot radiation for two straight weeks to reduce the mass. Possibly surgery and/or more chemo will follow.


Despite this, she’s in good spirits and remains hopeful. Me? I’m praying for a miracle.
