Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

My mom, who just turned 83 on January 21, is in the hospital and recovering from pneumonia and congestive heart failure. It looks like some minor kidney function issues were compromised by an incorrect prescription for an antibiotic for a bladder infection which led to breathing difficulties and the congestive heart failure. Now the big concerns are her kidney function and her heart.

My mother has, in the past 16 years had 3 hip replacements, a hysterectomy, two back surgeries and had to have her lower jaw rebuilt. And her faith has never wavered. She just doesn't seem to get a break. A prayer or two would be appreciated.

Update: A lovely couple from one of the Catholic Churches in town visited my mother last night and she was able to receive Communion. She had not been able to attend mass for the past several weeks and this was a great comfort to her to receive Our Lord.

Thank you for all your prayers.

Updated on 2/6 - My mother came home from the hospital last Thursday. She is doing well, getting her strength back and feeling better every day. She'll have a new diet (low sodium) and some lifestyle changes to adjust to (she'll have to weigh herself every day to look for sudden weight gain that might signal fluid retention which could trigger the congestive heart failure along with regular B-12 injections), but I'm sure she'll feel better than she did before. Thank you again for your prayers.

I'm praying, too. She sounds like a woman of great faith and courage!

Oh no, poor thing, my husbands 90+ yo grandmother has been going through very similar ailments as well. One thing just seems to lead to another.
