Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

My dh brought Opa to the hospital this afternoon. I feel a little guilty about not taking his complaints more seriously on Wednesday. I was actually feeling a bit impatient about his continual ailments.
If you have a moment to send up a tiny prayer for his speedy recovery and comfort I would be very thankful.
His name is Johannes.

Update below 1-30-12

Opa is back home and is lookin' good. There are some changes he will have to make in his lifestyle which he is not quite willing to accept. At almost 80 he must stop riding his bike and always have his cane with him when he leaves his apartment. It is not easy to accept the changes that age brings... in every stage (don't I know!). It can be very frustrating for a man. I also sense he fears a loss of dignity.
Writing this, it reminds me to talk about this aspect with dh and the girls. Dh is really good with his father and Opa is so proud of his son. This gives me joy to see how lovingly and patiently dh treats his father. The girls can learn a lot from his example.

Thank you all for your prayers. He was treated very well in the hospital and he has recovered for the most part from his ailments. It is so comforting for ME to know that you are praying for my intentions!

Stephanie,
Your account of your husband's example of honoring his father is so touching! What a blessing for all of you! I continue to pray for Opa, especially for some of these changes that are being asked of him which, though they may seem little and easy to accomplish, I imagine to be so hurtful and painful.

So glad to hear the update, Stephanie. Continued prayers for his recovery and the changes he will have to make--we went through a similarly difficult set of transitions for my dh's grandmother and it can be so challenging. And what a wonderful example your husband is!
