Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Update posted in thread below.
*****************
My mother is facing another year of big changes. After giving herself a year following my father's unexpected death in 2010, she has decided to sell their farm and move to the town in which we live (I am feeling
It would really give her peace of mind if all of this real estate "stuff" would go smoothly. Would you please join me in prayer that God's will be evident throughout, and that she be given just the right new home? I know no better way to help her through this very emotional time than to ask you wonderful, prayerful women to raise her up in prayer.

And could you pray also for me and my siblings? Our family has always had land, and we are struggling with what feels like the loss of a very large part of our family identity.
Thank you!

Oh, it's not....it's not trivial at all!! I completely understand!!!!! This is SO very hard!!! THIS is the kind of detachment I have trouble with!! SO, so painful!

I'm praying for you, Booksnbabes!!! And of course, I am praying for your mom and all these changes! May the Lord make smooth the way and provide His peace throughout!

Will pray for you. I don't think it's trivial at all. We lost my step-dad suddenly in 2010 as well and all those feelings probably just mean you'd like the clock to rewind about 2 years and everything be as it was. Praying for you and your mother's peace and contentment with what God has in store for you all.

Oh, Books, this is far from trivial. It is so hard to accept these changes that life brings to us. I will pray for your mother's transitions and for you and your siblings as you undertake the difficult task of letting go of the past and embracing the future.

"For I know the plans that I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans for welfare and not for calamity, to give you a future and a hope." Jeremiah 29:11 (NAS)

I am praying for your mom and your family.    This stress on top of all everyone has been through is no little matter! Prayers, too, for the real estate portion to go smoothly with no hitches.

Thank you everyone! I will update when the offering and counter-offering is done, but it looks like she will be getting the house on which she made an offer, and the potential buyer for the land said he can be ready to close in as early as two weeks! So far, so good, but continuing prayers would be great as until the papers are signed, there are no guarantees.

Mom seemed really at peace about it all tonight when we spoke on the phone, but she admitted that it is all scary--she has never had to make decisions like this, or move, without my dad; she never dreamed she would ever have to so early in life.

If I could ask prayers for one more group of people affected by all this--my children (ages 10 and under). They are very saddened by the thought of not having the farm anymore. They have so many good memories and little "traditions" that I did not even realize as such--like our annual Easter egg hunt there. It was always kind of a spur-of-the-moment thing from our adult perspective, something we just decided to do on a whim every year (often literally deciding to do it the day before). I did not realize they saw it as a set tradition. And the thought of not trekking through the creek or pasture anymore has brought them to tears more than once. I think when it is done, they will adjust quickly, but in the meantime we are having lots of talks about how life brings many changes, and we have to look for God's will in each situation and embrace that will even if it is difficult or scary. I think it is hardest on the oldest two as the farm is the setting for most of their memories of Grandpa. Or maybe that is hardest for me as I fear without that setting, it will be easier for them to forget him???

Please forgive the length of this note, I fear I am processing via posting. Thank you so much for your prayers; you and your intentions are in mine.

Book,
I just saw this today! I am praying. The 10 year anniversary of my Dad's death will be here in a few days. I was quite young when it happened and one of the hardest things next to his actual death was when my Mom sold her home and moved.

You and my Mother are in my prayers so that everything goes smoothly and that no one tries to take advantage of your Mother's situation (we had a tremendous amount of this, especially from people that I expected more from!)

I didn't see the first post but have now with the update. This is a very close to my heart type of prayer request, so will continue to pray that it all goes forward easily and that everyone adjusts to the change. It is truly are loss, even though it is just property.

We recently had a similar experience. My dad died the month after your father in 2010. My mom very quickly (within 4 months) sold their place which was out of town and had a few acres, and she bought a smaller place in town. I hadn't grown up there since we moved when I was in high school but my younger siblings did and because they were there 30 years it was still "home" to all of us. It has been hard on my kids. It is the place they associate with their grandparents and there are lots of great memories and traditions there as well. It's hard, too, because when we go back to visit we are still going to the same town, just not the same house. It feels very strange and we are still getting used to it a year later.

I can empathize with what you are going through. Know that I am praying for you all.

Thank you everyone for your prayers and empathy! Mom has her house here in town and we are in the midst of painting it. She will not move in for a couple months yet as she still has to commute until summer. She seems excited about the move, and ready to have it all over with.

We cleaned out the garage at the farm this week. My father was a carpenter, and we were going through all of his tools and odds and ends. So many scraps and miscellaneous things were tossed as it was my father's skill that made much of it of any worth. A difficult time, but over now, and it had to be done.

Your continued prayers would be appreciated regarding the sale of her acreage. She subdivided and sold the farmland already, so financially she is fine, but the sale of the house and remaining acres has been continually pushed back. The buyers are trying to get an FHA loan and more and more information seems to be required all the time. The are a lovely couple with children who are seeing the realization of a long-held dream in the purchase of the place--only if they have to push back the closing again, even by a day, they will lose the FHA loan as they already locked in the rate.      As my mother explained it, losing the loan would mean the loss of the property as they need the lower interest rate to make the payments (they are friends of hers, which makes the whole thing more difficult emotionally). There's more to the saga, but suffice it to say they could use prayers too. They've made some major changes in anticipation of moving and are really between a rock and a hard place if it all falls through.

Thank you all for your continued prayers!
