Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Today is my daughter's 7th birthday and we spent the entire day at the hospital with me hooked up to monitors. Perhaps I should be asking for prayers for her broken heart, we were to travel to the grandparents house to celebrate her day and to spend the weekend... now they'll be none of that. And she has spent the better part of the afternoon crying. ... the grandparents are driving up tonight to our house, but it 's just not the same as being at their house. Poor girl. I've told her time and again that it's not how I wanted to spend my day either ...

My babies are ok, but it seems that I've got two little trouble makers growing inside me and everyone is holding their breath for me to go into labor any minute, and it's just too, too soon for that. I'm just about 34 weeks. The babies are healthy and the doctors have me coming in for NST's twice weekly, as well as increased U/S monitoring. I'm dilated a bit (about 1.5 cm) but it seems that I'm also effaced 75%, I knew I was having contractions frequently (sometimes as often as every 5 minutes), but they are mild (or at least I think they are, the nurses however, did not), they are not painful - just general tightening. Thankfully the doctors have agreed that they are not pre-term labor contractions, just *warm-ups*. But nonetheless, all of this has got the entire family (and then some) thinking that they need to pack their bags and be at my front door in the morning.

I can't say that it hasn't effected me ... but I'm trying not to get too worked up over the worked-up-ness of the entire staff of doctors and family, but rather have a healthy respect for the delicacy of the situation, yet remain completely upbeat and positive about me being able to take this pregnancy well into the 37th week.

I started a Novena to St. Gerard last week, and I would so very much appreciate your prayers as well. For my pregnancy to progress well into the "safe-zone", for my continued health, for the health and safety of my babies, and for everyone to take a deep breath and try not to stress me out with their own worry.

Keeping all of your intentions close to my heart, ladies. Thank you

**** Update 11-30 ****

Thank you all so, so, so much for your kind words of encouragement and prayers. They have carried me through the anxiety of the unknown this past week, and helped me to keep from getting too worried.

I came to beg for additional prayers. I have a very important appointment this afternoon with my OB. The future of my pregnancy will be discussed at length ... needless to say, I am filled with anxiety about the outcome of the discussion. I already know that he wants to deliver me next week, at 35 weeks. I am not comfortable with this and will be praying like mad for my OB to consider extended monitoring efforts in lieu of delivery. My babies are safe and healthy and at this point there is no medical evidence to suggest otherwise. His concerns come from Baby B being smaller and that the girls are sharing a placenta. A special doppler U/S on Monday showed that there is adequate pressure and flow through each umbilical cord, and their haste in delivering me is coming from their assumption that something will go wrong and it's only a matter of time. Where as (right now) there is no medical evidence to suggest that something will in fact go wrong. My heart has been strained this past week and I'm emotionally drained.

What I'd really like to pray for is for everything to go my way ... but, I'd settle for a prayer something more along the lines of ::

Most Holy Trinity, for the continued health and safety of my precious babies, I pray. For the wise discernment of my doctors and myself as we strive continue to meet the needs of my babies and put their health and safety as our priority, and that the decisions that are made are truly in the best interest of my babies, and not stemming from medical liability concerns. Jesus I trust in You.

**** Update 12/12 ****

The good news is that I'm now 36 weeks and my little babies are still safe and healthy and growing! So all of the major concerns for them have subsided. ... The bad news is that as of this morning I am officially on bedrest because I am developing preeclampsia. I've never had this before and of course I'm worried. We're still in "watch and wait" mode, but I would appreciate any spare prayers you could offer .

**** Update 12/13 ****

... well, my doctor and his nurse are giving me the next two to three days to induce my own labor, and they're hoping I'm successful at doing so.

Having not ever had the need to induce my own labor (all my babies have come around 38 weeks), I'm only vaguely familiar with some of the ideas that may or may not work. So I would love to hear all of your suggestions! Fire away

I'll increase my prayers and you up your water intake ( try about two gallons a day) and that should get you through, maybe even over due!

We have been praying for you all along and will step up the prayers that you will make it to at least 37 weeks. Have you considered epsom salt baths?

I understand

good news is that 34 weeks is a big major milestone and if you get that far things are looking pretty good. From the perspective of the reaction of dealing with a baby that might have been born a lot sooner than that.. 34 weeks was when doctors and nurses started to relax a bit. Every day more is important, don't get me wrong, but it's a huge thing to get that far.

Maybe you could suggest that grandma and grandpa take your daughter out alone for a treat while they're there? That is a big thing here and that special time really is a treat.

Praying for you

Praying for you, your family, and your sweet daughter. I had a lot of those contractions with the twins. Even the early labor contractions did not feel like real contractions, so be careful, take it easy, and we will all uphold you and your precious duo with prayer!

I second the water, I have not been drinking enough this week and I felt it big time, I feel much better now that I'm keeping up on my fluids.

I just heard of a lady who went to 38 weeks with her twins and delivered two eight pound babies!

I am praying for the same for you... though maybe two nice, healthy six pounders would be fine as well.

Praying, Chris! Now this is just anecdotal, but my SIL had twins about 14 years ago, and I remember her discussing with us the fact that the doctors said (anecdotally, again) that a few weeks early with twins is more like full term for a singleton. That somehow the body *knows* 40 weeks is a long time for twins and "revs up" the maturation process...or something. Her twins were 4 weeks early and were almost 7 and almost 8 lbs.

So like I said I don't know how true this all is, but my SIL is not one to discuss or believe simple old wives tales.

Many . I *so* wish I was closer to help out and bring you water.

Will pray, Chris. My twins were born at a little over 35 weeks and spent no time in the NICU. Making it to 34 weeks is a great milestone for twins.
