Please pray for the soul of our beloved priest Fr. Bernie Staszak who passed away early this morning. He had been the priest at our parish since 1977 and brought me and my family into the Church seven years ago. We will all miss him.

Oh Shari, I'm so sorry. One has to wonder about the timing ofhis death. Certainly, he was a holy man, close to Jesus' heart. Our prayers are with you.

How beautiful that he would die on the day of the institution of Holy Orders and the Eucharist. It's his feast day, and he is closer to sharing it with Christ Himself. I will be praying especially for the repose of his soul.

Thank you to everyone for your prayers. It has been a very hard couple of days. I have never experienced this particular grief before. How do you describe the place a priest has in your heart? Also, thank you to those who reminded my about the day Fr. Bernie died. I didn't immediately make the connection. Fr. Bernie once told me how much he loved the Easter Tridium and especially the Chrism mass when he would make the trip to Buffalo and join his fellow priests with the Bishop. It is wonderful that he died on that particular day. Please keep our parish, Saint Matthis and our sister parish, Our Lady of the Snows in your prayers as we try and move on and forge a new parish life now that our "rock" is gone.
