I hesitated to post because I'm such an infrequent visitor these days, but Rachel encouraged me.
There have been terrible riots all over London last night, and also spreading to other big cities in the UK. Some of the riots reached our quiet suburb and cars were set on fire at the end of our road. There seems to be an outbreak of terrible lawlessness and the police seem to be doing very little about it.
All is quiet here so far this evening but it's a frightening situation to be in -- with our four precious children to worry about, plus number 5 due in a few weeks' time.
Please would you pray for our safety and our whole country? St Michael, defend us...

In case anyone's ever wondered about what it's like to be a military family, this is it. Just as we know Leanne and Doris, and we worry about their safety, so it is with military families everywhere. It's all personal. We are all connected.
When bad things happen I ask, "Who's there? Do I know anyone?" Often, I do. (And, sadly, yes, dh knows at least 3 people who died in Afghanistan this week...and I still don't know their names...or if I know them...)
For all 4Real members in the UK, wherever you are, I promise that I will pray for you until this crisis ends. I know you're all over the country and I know you worry no matter where you live.
My life as a Catholic, a military wife and a world citizen has been so positively enhanced by friends and by dh's UK colleagues...praying for your safety is the very least I can do in return for all the hospitality, friendship, help, encouragement, etc. I have been shown over the years. Total strangers have taken me in, given directions, offered advice...I hate to think that any of you are in danger now.
Saint Michael, pray for us!

dh hasn't heard from any of his family. All is probably OK.

I have been thinking of you, Elizabeth, as you are settling into your new home and preparing for a new baby. And praying. The violence is so unlike the English culture, but there are a lot of angry youth who seem to have no hope in their lives. I see it here as well and it is a bit frightening for all of us.
I will continue to pray for you and your family as well as Leeanne's family. Saint Michael, defend us! Saint George, pray for us.

All who are affected by these riots are in our prayers! May Our Lord watch over you all! Doris, thank you for posting. No matter how infrequent a visitor anyone is here, it is a privelege to be able to pray for each other, to assist in obtaining graces for our friendsa, and even those we may never know. That's the amazing thing of the Communion of saints, and the reality of the realm of heaven, we can touch the lives of people we may never know in person, just praying for them! Isn't that amazing!
Our Lady, we beg thee to spread thy mantle of protection over all the families near these riots, to protect all the innocent who are nearby or in harm's way!
