Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Friends,
In your kindness, please remember my very dear little brother, Christopher, in your prayers.

We are setting up hospice care for him this week and early next week.

Chris is 34 and single. He has suffered with brain cancer for the last 13 years, and this journey is coming to a close. Part of me rejoices that this person I treasure so much may be coming to the end of his earthly suffering, but my heart aches knowing that we are nearing the end of our time with him here.

Remember my children as well in your prayers. They are the only grandchildren and have a very close relationship with their Uncle Chris. Though I have been back and forth to help with Chris a good bit over the last few months, the kids have not seen Chris since his health has deteriorated so significantly over the last 4 months. We have decided to get the whole family together on Easter Sunday. We're preparing them for his much diminished physical condition.

My friends, I crave your prayers like never before, and I thank you in advance for your generosity.

Dear Jen,

I will pray especially for you all.

I just learned this morning that my son's former soccer coach, who's name is also Chris, is now in hospice for an untreatable brain tumor.

I will pray....

Sending hugs, too....

You and your whole family will be in my prayers through this holy weekend, Jennifer. I am so sorry you all are going through this, but I pray the transition to his hospice care will be comfortable for him and healing for all of you--I really am so sorry. Prayers!

Oh my dear friend, we are praying for all of you and we wish we could do more! You are in our thoughts and prayers. I will ask the kids if they will offer up their sufferings for Chris. We have had 2 kids with chicken pox and the rest are awaiting their fate

Give your Mom and Dad a big hug and let her know that there are so many praying for them and your dear brother!

Dearest Jen,
I am so, so sorry to learn of this great sorrow for your family and of your beloved brother's suffering. One thing that may help in preparing your dc for this experience is to share with them how very close your dear brother is to seeing the Face of God. His physical appearance and being may be greatly changed, but his soul is closer to the Lord than ever, especailly as he is united with Christ's own suffering during this most Holy Week. There is inexplicable sacredness and grace in the presence of those who are so near to death, as they draw ever nearer to the Face of God. As our Lord and Savior beckons Chris home, may your entire family be blessed with profound peace and consolation, especially knowing that he no longer suffers earthly pain and agony.

Two scripture verses brought comfort to our family when my dear brother passed away:

Wisdom 3:1-6
The souls of the just are in the Hand of God....Their passing was thought an affliction...But they are in peace....Chastised a little, they shall be greatly blessed, because God tried them and found them worthy of Himself. As gold in the furnace, He proved them, and as sacrificial offerings He took them to Himself.

Isaiah 57:1
The righteous perish and no one ponders it in his heart; devout men are taken away and no one understands that the righteous are taken away to be spared from evil.

You have our ongoing prayers for your dear brother Chris, and for each and every member of your family, especially your dc. May our Lord hold you all close to His Sacred and Merciful Heart in the days to come.

Oh Jen, though it is not a surprise to hear this, it is none the less so very hard to hear. My heart breaks for you. I will be praying for you and your family as you pass through these coming days - and know that we will be keeping the children especially in prayer. It is amazing how strong and understanding children can be in their innocence.

- from many miles away!

Jennifer, I will be offering the Mass of the Lord's Supper tonight for all of your intentions and for your dear brother, Chris. May the hope of the Resurrection and the peace of Christ which passes all understanding fill the hearts of all your family during this sorrowful trial. I will be praying especially for your children.

Oh, dear friend, I am so sorrow for your loss and the great suffering of Chris and of your entire family! But, I know that you know that our good God allows this only so that He might one day bring forth joy and eternal goodness from this sadness and pain. I am praying that He will grant you a small foretaste of that joy even now as you travel through this dark valley.

I've been praying throughout Lent for Chris and all of you who hold him so dear, and, of course, I will continue to pray during this holy season.

All I can offer from this distance are prayers and cyberhugs for all of you...I pray that you will find comfort in the prayers and support of all of us who treasure your friendship.

Dear Jen -
This time is, indeed, so emotionally full for all of you - Chris, you and your family, your parents, your sister. Please know that I am holding you all in prayer, constantly.

Peace,

I read this update earlier today on my phone and the children and I have been praying since. I'm crying with you, friend . This is such a long suffering and at the same time the news is shocking and so disorienting. I have come to love Chris dearly and it is heart-breaking to even consider saying goodbye .

Jen, you are one of the bravest souls I know (and I know many brave souls.) Be brave, my dear friend, and know that while you are caring for Chris, your children, your whole family...we are caring for you. We are covering you in prayer, especially in your most quiet, little, and tender moments.

Praying with all my .

Love,

My heart aches for you all, but I also feel so privileged to have been praying you through this journey. Your surrender to God and witness of faith continue to be an inspiration to me. I am so sorry for your suffering and am fervently praying for your brother, your parents, your family and the kids during these days.

Oh Jen. I am so, so very sorry to hear of this. It is an honor to pray for you all - your brother Chris, you, your children, and dear friends that love him so very much. I pray for a peaceful Easter for you all, I pray that you feel Christ's presence as you all prepare, suffer, and rejoice. Abundant graces be yours.

Dear Jen, I don't know what words to say. My heart breaks for you, your family, and precious children. We have walked this painful road of slowly seeing our loved ones pass from us a number of times. It hurts so very much, but as you said there is a comfort inknowing they will no longer suffer. Many hugs and prayers our dear friend! Thank you for letting us know so we can uphold you during this time of sorrow.
