Please pray for all those who are worried about the potential effects of a government shutdown. At last count, over 800,000 workers would be directly affected, not to mention over 1,000,000 active duty military (who will be paid, but not on time). Managers are stressing over shutdown plans, knowing their contractors probably won't be paid as things look now. Families are worried about making ends meet. I live near enough to DC to feel the waves of stress that drift out as each hour goes by without even a vote on a budget bill.
Please pray for our lawmakers, that they may focus on what is real, important and true, and for all those who are worried about the immediate future. Pray, too, for all the workers who are affected by these events, and for their families.
Heavenly Father, send forth Your consoling Spirit to comfort all those who must wait and watch and worry during these stressful days. Grant Your wisdom to our lawmakers as they grapple with difficult issues that affect so many people. Help us to remember that You care for us all, and that You are waiting with open arms for us to flee to You in time of need. We come to you in prayer with confidence in Your love for us, through Jesus Christ, Our Lord. Amen.

I don't mean to sound completely ignorant here, but I didn't realize this was such an issue. My husband is a government contractor near DC and he hasn't mentioned anything about it. I'm going to have to look more into this. And I will be praying, too!

Kacky, I think we have many 4Real members who might be temporarily or permanently affected (in terms of pay, at least). This is a very important prayer intention. Please know I'm praying for your family!

After looking online for a very short time, I do see this all over the place. I really had no idea the urgency of this situation! I don't watch the news much and my husband hadn't mentioned it. I'll have to talk to him about it.
I will be praying.

Praying. My DH can't get any overtime work until a budget passes and we're not entirely sure if he would be considered "essential personnel" in the event of a shutdown.

Praying for this situation. My husband is a federal employee. We live just outside DC, and I can't imagine the impact on the entire economy around here if people aren't paid.
Peace,
Nancy

DC isn't the only area that has a large percentage dependant on gov't jobs either.. there's lots of small towns that the largest employer is the US Forest Service or BLM or Fish and Wildlife etc.

My dh tells me that they have just reached a compromise, and the shutdown is averted. This is good news for our family as my dh is a DOD civilian employee.
A grateful thank you to all who prayed.
In Christ,
Deborah
who was seriously stressed earlier today

Yes, thank you everyone! I'm sure there are more battles to come, but I watched friends worrying tonight and I am glad they were able to go to sleep tonight knowing they are not looking at potential financial problems.
I have to say, I was more than touched by all the credit unions and other service providers who offered late payment options, advance pay and many other incredibly helpful alternatives. What a wonderful way to reach out to customers!

Nancy, we will continue to pray for all those impacted near and wide by these important matters...essentially, every single US family. Dh and I discussed this over the weekend....we both arrived at the same conclusion, simultaneously...we must deepen our trust in God, relying on Him more than ever before! He cares for the lilies of the field and the tiniest sparrow...He will surely care for each and every one of us who love and follow Him! May His peace reign in the hearts, minds and souls of all those closest to these matters and may His saving Grace provide for all the deepest needs of each and every household. Those gracious credit unions and service providers are already acting as God's servants in extending offers of assistance to those who might be impacted by economic issues! God is so very, very good! May we all go to bed, each and every night, praising Him for His abiding care...even during desert times! May the Lord find us faithful in all seasons!
