Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

This email went out through our homeschooling group's list and I thought it might be a good idea to share it here too.

Dear Friend of Ignatius Press,

Sometimes a story is so important we want to draw your attention to it right away. That is the case with this story we posted on IgnatiusInsight.com today. San Francisco Archbishop George Niederauer is a man who faces one of the most difficult challenges of any episcopacy--this story tells you why.

Here's the story:

SAN FRANCISCO, March 30, 2006 _ A firestorm of defiance over Church teaching on homosexuality has been ignited following the appointment of George Niederauer as archbishop of San Francisco and a Vatican directive telling San Francisco Catholic Charities to halt gay adoption. Two Catholic institutions are in open dissent on homosexuality: Catholic Charities, which continues to assert its right to place children with homosexual parents, and the Jesuit University of San Francisco, which has a decades-long history of nurturing homosexual ideology and expressions. Meanwhile, at least two pastors in San Francisco-area parishes not dominated by homosexuals gave sermons last week supporting adoption by homosexuals.

Please keep the archbishop of San Francisco and all our bishops and priests in your prayers as our Church navigates these contentious times--but always with Our Lord's help and guidance.

Thanks for the reminder to always be praying for our priests. Lord Jesus Christ, son of God, have mercy on us sinners.

Oh MAN! I grew up in SF and know many of these poeple who are probably involved in all this. In fact, my ds was working at USF up until her accident, so she probably knowns many more of the insa dn outs than I do.

PLEASE pray -- the SF archdiocese has a wonderfully strong history that is so tarnished lately.....

Thanks Kristine for letting us know....

There has been a new development in this story. On March 18th "The new archbishop of San Francisco took his first significant public stand with a declaration that will end Catholic Charities' placement of children for adoption with homosexual parents."

(See article at Ignatius Insight for more)

Today I read this: "Crafting a solution that key players say will allow the local agency to continue to help foster children without violating local LGBT nondiscrimination laws or orders from the Vatican, Catholic Charities of San Francisco has partnered with the local organization Family Builders by Adoption to help match kids in need with prospective parents of all backgrounds and sexual orientations."(See link to Bay Area Reporter)

Let's continue to pray for all those involved including the bishop and, of course, the children....
