My contractors' mother/mother-in-law (one partner is married to the other's sister) fell and broke her ankle Monday night and has been in the hospital since. She has severe COPD and so can't have pain meds that do any good, since they stop her breathing. Her orthopedist has not bothered to see her since his initial visit Monday (it is Wednesday now!) and no one can determine whether surgery is an option or not - let alone do it - until he turns up. He is not answering phone calls either. A new orthopedist has been requested, but meanwhile an elderly lady with serious health issues is in the hospital, unable to sleep or eat because of the pain, and is growing weaker.

Please pray for her and for her medical team and her family. I told her son (our contractor) I would ask St. Pio to intercede, as it is his feast day tomorrow. (He is a "lapsed" Catholic, it turns out.)

Update 9/23: Surgery is today at 12:30 EST. She will be on a ventilator for at least a week...then, all is in the hands of God. The family is very worried; they are grateful for your prayers.

Update 9/24:

Wow, your prayers are powerful!!! The anesthesiologist decided to try a spinal at the last minute - surgery took 20 minutes - no ventilator! Everything went perfectly, with no risk to her breathing. God is so good.

Thank you for your prayers. (My contractors thank you, too!) There's rehab ahead, but that's okay.

Update 9/30:

Please pray for this brave lady and her family. She's been sent home and now there's family dissension about whether it's time for hospice. Seeing this kind of division in a family during such a stressful time is very difficult. Pray that the children step back and really listen to their mother and allow her to make choices for herself, please.
