Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

OK. Here's the latest lowdown from our house. I asked for my husband to tile a bathroom floor. He decided to redo the entire bathroom. The toilet of that bathroom has been sitting in our garage for three weeks while he works to upgrade the 70's style.

Our oven went kaput a couple of weeks ago. We have another one in our basement kitchen that we can use. It's a little inconvenient, but it'll suffice until we manage to scrape enough together to cut 1/3 of our cupboards in the kitchen to replace the one we have upstairs. We must do this because our current oven is a tiny, in-the-wall 1970's model. I haven't looked because I really do not want a replica of this tiny thing in my kitchen again, but I just don't think they make these anymore. Our range is from the same era and sits next to the cupboard where the oven sits. I'd frankly like the range to sit on top of the oven. This other set-up is a huge waste of space.

My husband had to shut off the water a few times for plumbing issues with the bathroom and the water heater exploded. Tonight. There was standing water in the utility room which had leaked to carpeting, through the wall into the little closet in the boys' bedroom WHERE I HAD STORED HIS BIRTHDAY PRESENTS. Gosh, I never can surprise that guy.

Somehow, though we have no hot water and the oven is a floor away, I am not in despair. God is buoying me up. Maybe there's more to come???

Prayers, anyone? Please?

You have my prayers, in abundance, as I think we're both in Home Improvement Limbo... (that's my hope, anyway, as the alternative is a less-desirable address). We recently went through (on top of the stacks of furniture and boxes in every room, as we add on) a phase without any running water in our kitchen, so I can empathize completely with your frustration and concern. (Hey, we got real locks on our addition back door today...I finally feel safe! Progress is possible!)

St. Joseph, guardian, foster father and teacher of Our Lord Jesus, pray for all those who labor to improve home and hearth. Beg your foster son, Christ Jesus, to protect them from harm and bring their efforts to fruition. Together with your beloved spouse, our Blessed Mother, please pray for all those whose homes are in disarray during construction projects and other disruptions. Pray for the safety of all the hardworking people who are expending time, effort, talent and treasure to improve their families' living spaces. Ask your foster Son, who promised that our Heavenly Father listens to all prayer, to protect them and grant them quick and complete success in their efforts, in accordance with the will of God. Pray, too, that God will grant these families time and peace to enjoy the fruits of their labors and to appreciate all that He provides for them. We ask this in the name of Jesus, Our Lord and your foster son, who lives and reigns forever. Amen.

Offering prayers for you, Tina. I know how it feels when it seems like nothing else could possibly go wrong when doing home improvement...and it does! It seems that way with almost every project we undertake (and we are fixing to redo a bathroom ourselves). I will be praying the prayer that Nancy offered for all of us!

Praying for you and your husband, using Nancy's beautiful prayer. My dh is wonderful, but it seems there is an unending list of things that get started and the finishing part takes a lot longer than planned (of course throw in those things that are not expected and we have life.)

Praying that it all calms down. Sounds both inconvenient and exhausting.

Peace,
Nancy

Oh man. We bought a, um, "fixer upper in a great neighborhood" 12 years ago. Yes, it is STILL unfinished. To my husband's credit, we use only cash, but 12 years of this mess gets to me.

I will definitely pray for you...it can wear on your nerves. I try and say Thank You to our Dear Lord for a roof over my head. It helps me stay sane.
