I conceived a child in early December. The ultrasound last month revealed that the baby had died in at 8 weeks. My emotions have rollercoastered for the past month because I have not yet passed the gestational sac. I have gone from rejoicing while yet dreading telling our parents that we are expecting another blessing (we have discussed this in other threads) to grieving to just an empty hollow feeling upon rising that I cannot recognize until it all comes into focus.
Today is my first appointment with my caregiver. I usually see one of the midwives but they are scheduling me with a doctor. This doctor is a fellow parishioner and is very kind. I am actually looking forward to seeing her because my usually wonderful, compassionate midwives keep referring to the baby as a "non-viable fetus". This may be politically correct medical jargon, but it is not at all helpful or comforting.
I have lost a child before at about 8 weeks gestation, but it was the bleeding that alerted me to the miscarriage and I conceived our 2nd son 5 days after that miscarriage. This time it is just a period of waiting (..and waiting). I really wish to avoid a D&C, but if it is necessary, then I suppose I will have to since it has been since about the third week in January since I lost the baby.
I am asking for your prayers for my appointment today. Thank you so much.
Blessings,

It is evident to me that prayers were heard and answered. The doctor was incredibly compassionate and understanding. She prescribed an antibiotic to prevent infection and Misoprostol to see if it could get my body to pass the baby on my own to try to avoid the d&c if at all possible. I begin the treatment tonight. We just pray that this it works and I can avoid the emergency room.
I had never heard of Misoprostol and am curious if anyone else has used it for this purpose? (apparently, it is also an oral ulcer med.)
I am so grateful for your prayers and sacrifices. Thank you!
Blessings,

Misoprostal was prescribed for me when I miscarried last August.
Out of concern, the pharmacist didn't want to fill the prescription until I explained that it was for my miscarriage.
The pills worked and a D&C was not necessary for me.

I just found this and wanted you to know that I am praying for you now, Kristina.
Also, I hope you don't mind if I share a prayer that I found on EWTN.com last year when I miscarried my baby. I cried when I read it (and still do) but in a healing way.
Blessings,
Jen

My Lord, the baby is dead!
Why, my Lord—dare I ask why? It will not hear the whisper of the wind or see the beauty of its parents’ face—it will not see the beauty of Your creation or the flame of a sunrise. Why, my Lord?
“Why, My child—do you ask ‘why’? Well, I will tell you why.
You see, the child lives. Instead of the wind he hears the sound of angels singing before My throne. Instead of the beauty that passes he sees everlasting Beauty—he sees My face. He was created and lived a short time so the image of his parents imprinted on his face may stand before Me as their personal intercessor. He knows secrets of heaven unknown to men on earth. He laughs with a special joy that only the innocent possess. My ways are not the ways of man. I create for My Kingdom and each creature fills a place in that Kingdom that could not be filled by another. He was created for My joy and his parents’ merits. He has never seen pain or sin. He has never felt hunger or pain. I breathed a soul into a seed, made it grow and called it forth.”
I am humbled before you, my Lord, for questioning Your wisdom, goodness, and love. I speak as a fool—forgive me. I acknowledge Your sovereign rights over life and death. I thank You for the life that began for so short a time to enjoy so long an Eternity.

It impossible not to cry when reading this. My son just came up to me to ask what I was crying about. Thank you so very much for posting this. It is so beautiful, full of hope, comfort and very healing. I will be printing it to keep in my bible cover pocket. God Bless you!

Kristina,
I'm so sorry for the loss of your precious baby. I know the heartache can be hard to bear, but you have an irreplaceable soul in heaven praying for you. Have you named your baby? We named all of our miscarried children, and I ask them to pray for us every day. It's powerful.

Dear Elizabeth and Jenn,
Thank you for asking. I took the Misoprostal the previous night to get my body to pass the baby. The next day, March 15, I lost quite a bit of blood and fainted. My husband promptly brought to the e.r. At the hospital I was given an I.V. and fortunately, my own doctor examined me and determined that a D&C would not be necessary, for which I was so very thankful. My medical health feels like the easy part compared to the grief of losing a baby, though. Since our daughter weened in January, this is the first time in nine years where I am not pregnant or nursing and I feel this wierd guilt to have my body all to myself.
Karen, we named this baby Vivien and our second child, who was lost to miscarriage on 6-15-98, is named Morgan. It was our priest who encouraged me to name that child because I was having a difficult time grieving. Our second son often says "Baby Morgan went back home to God so I could have a chance to be born." (he was conceived just 5 days after that miscarriage ). We often seek the intercession of Morgan and Vivien.
I am so grateful for all of your prayers.
Blessings,
