Hi, friends!
Tomorrow I leave for Sacramento (four hours away)......taking my 17 yo down for a heart catheterization.
It is expected to be same day surgery though they could keep her overnight. I am slightly nervous about the risk of clots. I hate when my kids have to deal with invasive procedures and anesthesia (I know, we all do!).....such a leap of faith. I have it, the faith........but it is always an uncomfortable feeling. Such trust in strangers to take care of our kids. (I guess my patients and their families feel this way about me??  )
We have never met this MD doing the procedure...and my son's godparents did not have a good experience with him. But, an RN at the hospital has reassured me about his qualities. I think I will like him in the end, if she is right. She was wonderful on the phone. Isn't that nice?
The surgery will be at 0730 and will last 2-4 hours.
I will be able to be online probably....as I will take our laptop.
Please pray for our safe travels....for the kids I leave behind........for my husband who has a difficult boss visiting at the same time.....starting today. Please pray we get to come home Tuesday. Please pray for my friends who have offered to take my kids and drive them to all of their stuff. Please pray I get good enough sleep for all of this driving.
My dd was born with a rare congenital heart defect......had her heart repaired at 9 days of age and a valve replacement at age 6yrs. She leads a normal life and has always been healthy. In fact, both she and I forget all of the time that she was a "heart baby" since her life is so "normal." She expects to have another valve replacement in the Fall. She has been mildly symptomatic recently. I hope she can hold out till fall. The summer is crazy enough!
Thanks, my friends! You all are in our prayers and we will both offer everything for all of your intentions.....just like we did in June of 1999...........a few months after I joined CCM.

Oh! I forgot! We ask the intercession of Saint John of God, the patron saint of heart patients......and Saint Philomena, who picked our family as a patron during her first heart surgery when she was newly born. She went in to surgery wearing her Saint Philomena cord on her wrist...they let her keep it! Thanks for the prayers!

I will offer up my days Sunday and Monday for your dd and family.
Please tell your dd we will be praying for her. It's so hard- always best when safely over and done.

Oh, Chari...Honey, you KNOW I know about that little leap of Faith as they come and get your sweet child....I’ll be praying and offering up. Lily is a week from Tuesday....Many Keep us updated, okay??

We have made it to Sacramento safely.......and God even gave us an important chance to call on Him...and wait patiently....and He then sent the guardian angel we asked for! We saw God in action! It was so amazing...I was practically speechless.
So, thanks for the prayers! Got to be at the hospital at 5:30am....what are they thinking?

She is in surgery right now....should be to recovery in about one hour.......spend 1.5 hrs there.....and then the rest of the day in PICU. SHOULD BE routine!
