I have been trying to tough this out, but here I am on my knees, begging for prayer help. I am running out of stamina for this pregnancy and becoming fearful of how I will get through this birth naturally; I am losing sight of all the positive imagery and hope that usually keeps me going.
while today is my official due date, for the past 8 days my contractions have been 7-10 minutes apart, usually for 4-6 hours followed by a few hours' break. but no true progress is being made. (I was off and on bed rest and medication for false labor since the second trimester, so the contractions aren't new. but the regularity is. now it seems ironic that we were worried about a preterm birth!) anyway, I have been dilated to 5 cm for the past 5 days and my midwife has stripped my membranes several times, but no active labor yet. and my blood pressure has been spiking but that seems to be anxiety related, since it's not (thank you, God) pre-eclampsia. worst of all, I dropped into depression over the weekend and am as afraid of that as anything else. maybe more.
I am trying so hard to trust in God's plan and his perfect timing, but I am struggling. I know this thread is full of heartbreak; I am sorry to ask for help with something that is, really, a blessing and a joy. I just seem to be losing sight of the big picture.
thank you, ladies.
UPDATE: thank you so much for all your prayers! I have felt buoyed and way more peaceful since I asked for help. however, I am also still pregnant. still 5 cm dilated, and still contracting, although not with the clocklike regularity of last week. I have also been to a therapist and officially diagnosed as moderately to severely depressed, which means we're working up a plan to prepare for post-partum depression, just in case.
so. that's the news. on the bright side, if he doesn't come by the weekend, my midwife will try blue and black cohosh and is recommending accupuncture. has anyone tried that? (although my husband is hoping today is the day so he can name this little guy Patrick Guinness.
THANK YOU AGAIN, SO VERY MUCH!!!!!
BABY LUKE UPDATE: OH, YOU WONDERFUL LADIES! THANK YOU FOR ALL YOUR PRAYERS!!! (and sorry this is a delayed update; we stayed at the birth center longer than I thought and have had other family challenges crop up since getting home.)
we were blessed with a St. Joseph baby!! after all that prework, he came with a splash ... literally. the active labor was less than an hour, so he was born in the shower because the tub didn't fill fast enough. I actually had fallen asleep thinking about St. Joseph, and was woken by my water breaking. he came so fast we barely had time to realize what was happening; only pushed 5 times and there he was ... all 9 lbs, 22 inches of him. the midwives were amazed at how peaceful it was, and called it a very graceful birth. I know grace-full is what they saw.
talk about the power of prayer! thank you for all the beautiful words of encouragement. I drew such strength from knowing there were prayers out there, in the dark of my night.
Baby Luke is beautiful. we are so blessed. and I am so incredibly grateful to all of you. I have been lifting up all the requests on this board (and will continue to do so) with special fervor in gratitude. THANK YOU!!!!!
PS: Luke's middle name is still up for a vote. contenders are Damien, Gonzaga, Aloysius, Toma and Gabriel.

I am praying for you, Viviane!
One thing that helped me, tremendously, was to meditate everyday. Mediate on birthing my baby, meditate on my body readying itself for birth ~ a peaceful birth, a loving birth, the birth of my dreams! I would visualize this as I showered, cooked, did the dishes, folded laundry, and while I was trying to fall asleep.
As much as possible I would listen to this Psalm 23, which I downloaded onto my I-Pod from Amazon.com. (just scroll down and click on "Woman Sings While in Labor) ~ amazing.
Praying for you!

Please don't lose sight. God's plans are perfect, even when we wish otherwise. Be patient with your pregnancy and enjoy feeling that beautiful movement of a baby inside.

Oh, honey, 5cm, you are so close to really getting going! I do feel for you, I have very long and puttery labors myself, they are so frustrating and exhausting, but oh, you are *right there*! You'll be holding that munchkin soon! I have no great advice, just mostly posting so I can cheer for you when you come back and post that your baby is here.
