of our dear dear friend, Klaus.
He and his wife are like grandparents for our children.
He died this morning at home with 2 of his adult children and his wife present. He lived a very full, faith filled life always seeking to work for God's kingdom.
He was a child during WW2 , the second of 4 boys. The family was poor and because of rationing, had no food so he was sent to work on a farm at around age 10, because the farmers always had food to eat. He slept in the loft of the barn, woke at the crack of dawn to work and then took off for the 6km walk/run to school. The walk home from school took a little longer and then began to work again. Only late at night could he begin to do any homework. He told us that anytime there was a thunderstorm the family would awake and gather downstairs dressed and pray the rosary until the thunder and lightning passed. The danger of a lightning strike was so great. His childhood was so totally different than anything we have experienced. I have learned so much from him.

Klaus worked like a mule his whole life. He worked hard and fast. His faith unshakable.
I miss him already. Please pray for him and his family.

Stephanie, Klaus' life reminds me of some members of my own family. My dad was born during the war, my mom right after it had ended. It's hard for us to imagine how different their lives were when they were growing up.
