Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Please pray for friends stationed in Les Cayes, Haiti. There has been a 7.0
earthquake near Port-au-Prince. Dn. Peter and Linda Faford from our parish are
serving the orphan community here

We are desperately worried about the children and staff there...

Blessings,

Several aftershocks in the 5s have been reported. A hospital and part of the presidential palace have collapsed in the P-a-P.

Comms in Haiti must be very bad, it may be days before we hear. Awful.

Blessings,

Fr. Marc Boisvert just posted that the orphanage escaped damage and there are no injuries at this time. He asks that prayers continue until the aftershocks stop.

Blessings,

In some parts of Port-au-Prince there are more collapsed houses than standing ones. Several bridges are down. This is a very bad situation.

Prayers of thanksgiving that the orphanage is alright, and prayers for all those who are suffering in this horrible disaster!

The archbishop has died and the cathederal and seminaries lost. Let's pray for our Catholic brothers and sisters.

Oh, prayers being prayed here too!
There were some young missionaries there from the Methodist church in our town. We did receive notice that they were ok and made it to the airport and were awaiting evacuation.
How terrible this is! I can't imagine....

Pray, too, for relief workers and military folks headed down there...

And remember to donate only to recognized charities (CRS, Red Cross, Doctors Without Borders) - word is out that scammers are already taking advantage of this sad situation.

So very sad and tragic. My prayers are with all those in Haiti affected by this earthquake.

Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, have mercy!

I just spoke with Linda via email. She thanks everyone for their prayers, they are desperately needed. I have asked her if there is anything we can do materially to help. Pwoje Espwa is expecting an influx of hungry refugees, and likely an increase in true orphans who will need care.

The question on the minds of many American mothers is whether or not we might adopt a child or children. I know from having worked around international adoption that it will take time before systems are in place to pave the way for adoptions. Before any of that can happen searches for natural next-of-kin must be done.

If you wish to make a monetary contribution, Cross International, and Free The Kids/Theo's Work are all directly supporting Pwoje Espwa with suppllies, as is USAid, which links donors to this site.

Pwoje Espwa's link is in the original post. I'm not affiliated in any way with them, just hoping to pass on information.

Blessings

I'd also like to request special prayers for a local girl, Britney Gengel. You might have seen her dad on CNN, asking president Obama for more rescuers to be sent to Haiti. Britney arrived in Haiti on Monday for a college mission trip. Some of her group were pulled from the remains of the Hotel Montana in PaP. Her folks were told that she was among the rescued, but were later told that she and five others from the school were still unaccounted for.

We attended a prayer vigil for her. The church was packed to bursting. We were among the crowd that prayed silently outside in the snow. We joined a much diminished crowd inside later on for a rosary.

I saw earlier today that recusers are still hearing voices from inside the Hotel, so we are living in hope that they are able to get more people safely out. Of course, we pray especially that Britney is among them. Apparently there were many in the lower level restaurant for dinner at just before 5PM. It is my understanding that there was a sort of safe pocket formed in there after the initial collapse.

I know her family, and the families of the others still trapped there and around the country cherish each and every prayer.

Blessings,
