I think Lucy has posted before that the UK government is proposing to change the law on home education. They commissioned a review which was basically a foregone conclusion, seeing all home educators as potential abusers and proposing draconian changes. They want to 'license' us on an annual basis, impose mandatory home visits, and worst of all, interview our children alone. I'm angered by the proposals but also very frightened by this blatant attack on civil liberties and on family life.

The UK home ed community has protested vociferously. The latest campaign is to present a series of formal parliamentary petitions against the proposals. The MP organising them has arranged for them to be presented to Parliament on Tuesday.

I'm really encouraged that the date has fallen on the feast of the Immaculate Conception. If anyone could pray for the defeat of the proposals, that would be wonderful.

I'm meeting with our MP tomorrow to present the petition for my constituency. I'd much appreciate an Ave for that meeting, too.

The UK home ed organisations have been encouraging us all to contact our MPs about this, so certainly the more the merrier. The trouble is, home education is such a minority thing here, most 'normal' people just don't get it, and think that inspections etc would be a good thing.
Also, plenty of MPs (like mine) are in safe seats, so don't really care what their constituents say...
