Last Tuesday, my friend of 31 years, Karen had a seizure and lost conciousness. After going to the hospital and having a CAT scan done, it was discovered that she has a tumor the size of a tennis ball growing in her brain. It seems that this tumor has been there all of her life and has been very slow-growing.
Karen is having surgery this morning beginning at 10 a.m. The surgery should take about 6 hours. Her doctor, Dr. King, is very confident that he will be able to remove the tumor easily and that more than likely it is not cancerous. However, brain surgery is still brain surgery. Karen has an amazing outlook. She feels confident that Dr. King will be able to take the tumor out and that she is going to be just fine. However, she knows that something could happen, but she feels comfortable that if the Lord calls her home early, that she is going to be with Him.
Would you please join me in praying for Karen today? And her family: her husband, Michael and their 3 children, Madison, Ashley and Alex, her parents Brenda and Dallas, and her sister Cristy?
Lord, you are the Great Physician. We pray that your hands guide Dr. King and the whole surgical team as they help to restore Karen to perfect health. We know that you are the Great and Mighty One. We come to you this day in thanksgiving for Karen's life, and for the technology that is available today to help her. Blessed Mother, wrap your arms around Karen and her family as they wait today. Amen
UPDATE: Please storm heaven! Michael just sent me a message that there is bleeding on the brain. She was set to wake up tomorrow morning. will update more when I hear.
UPDATE 12/2: Karen is clinging to life after brain surgery. Please pray for her. They are doing a brain flow scan this morning to see if there's any blood flow to the brain. She needs all of our prayers. Thank you
Final Update: It seems that Karen has gone home to be with our Lord. The pressure in her brain is 3x what it should be. Her pupils are fixesd and dilated, she is unresponsive. The only thing keeping her heart beating, and her lungs breathing is life support. Her husband feels certain that she went home yesterday around 3 in the afternoon. Please keep this family in your prayers. A husband missing his wife, 3 young children who will grow up without their mother, and parents who are having to bury their 2nd child. It is a tragedy, and we do not understand God's will, but Karen is good. It is us left here that are suffering. Thank you for all of your prayers.

Praise God! Karen got out of surgery around 8. The doctor said the tumor was made of many layers of fragile calcium. Full recovery expected!! Thank you for your prayers.

Thanks for asking. Latest update is the bleeding on the brain. Haven't heard any more from Karen's husband but "911, pray hard. bleeding on brain."

I haven't been able to post much the last few days - I've been reading through my emails and praying, just not posting. My own brother is just this week starting a protocol for a new clinical trial for his recurrent brain cancer so I've been spending a lot of time keeping up with what is going on with him...and not here...but I did want to pop over here quickly tonight to say that I'm praying with all my heart for Karen and have been since this morning.
I know from experience with Chris that they usually leave a "back door" ready to open quickly to relieve pressure in the event of bleeding, so I'm hoping that the pressure is relieved and that they've found and stopped the source of the bleed!
Praying with all my heart that news is good in the morning, Cindy!

Praying for Karen - and her family who are certainly in agony of the waiting to know. Through the intercession of St. Pier Giorgia Frassati, may she be restored to perfect health - soon.
