Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I am putting off packing for our trip "home" for Thanksgiving in part because I feel a huge knot in my stomach every time we're about to make this trip. I won't belabor every little detail that contributes to this but there are just many, many little things that add up to a difficult overall situation every time we head to my mom's to stay. And now that we have three kids we are starting to get some of the "big family" flak that I know many of you here experience.

If you could please offer a prayer for my peace of mind these next few days and for the grace to act with charity in all situations.

I know that there are many of you with similar situations who are headed to see family this week or in the coming weeks. Feel free to add your intentions to this thread and I will offer my trials for your intentions.

Thank you!

I will pray for you...our packing is not proceeding smoothly either, and I will offer up the pre-trip trials for you and yours.

Susan,

I actually came to the board to post the same request so I'll do as you asked and post my intention here.

Please say a prayer for my family this Thanksgiving. Hubby is working and I have to deal with the extended family by myself. I really need it to go smoothly and I think that if I get asked one more time if we are going to have any more kids by my family I might scream, so pray that does not happen.

I'll be offering my days for you all! Happy Thanksgiving!

Isn't it amazing what a time of stress the holidays are for so many *because* of getting together with family, when that is supposed to be one of the main purposes and joys of them! But, alas, it is too true, for many of us. Overjoyed and thankful to spending a good portion of thanksgiving with good friends (fellow homeschoolers/large families) this year! I pray you have as a relaxing a time as possible.

Praying for you!

Praying that everyone's Thanksgiving is a blessed one, especially those who worry most about family issues.

I know some of the challenges you are speaking of, Susan!

I have found great comfort in the contentment of who our family is. I was sharing with a dear friend on this topic recently and we were both agreeing that there is great peace in finding, rejoicing, and exploring the good in our extended family, especially while we are visiting, and being content with and allowing our immediate family to "be who we are." Sometimes, there is a great Cross involved in being who we are. Sometimes, the chasm that separates the two families is wide. Angst came for me when I tried to cross that chasm or somehow bridge the separation. In allowing myself to find the good in extended family, and be content and joyful in who we are, I have found peace. I'm still navigating these challenging issues, and seeking to do so in a holy and charitable way, but I wanted to send all of you and share some of my reflections and tell you all that I'm praying as well!
