My sister has been in hospital for over a week now with a serious (potentially life threatening) bacterial infection called celluitis. The critical nurse inserted a pic line yesterday because her antibiotic cocktails keep turning her veins over with their flushings. Not sure how long she'll be in hospital, praying she will recover quickly.
My daughter just called (23years) to announce to my hubby and I she needs to have her tonsils removed due to a severe infection in them (my bet is already become systemic from the sound of her voice and symptoms), draining also into her lungs with big cheesy balls of gunk. She dropped the bomb when she informed us she isn't sure she can have the surgery because she hasn't been paying her medical bills for the past while as she felt they were a waste of money. #@$#$#*%# ahhhhhhh.....
Okay I feel better now venting this out!!!! Now to follow up when she calls a bit later with the tough parental talk.
Do you have adult kids who have done this, sent their medical responsibilities out the window with a thought pattern like this one?
My head is reeling over this unexpected bomb today. How to handle it.... obviously she needs help, and then what, no medical again later on? Sheesh!

Oh dear, Renee...I have absolutely no wisdom for you on your challenging situation with your daughter, but I can certainly send prayers your way asking the Holy Spirit to grant you wisdom so you can proceed in charity!
I'll pray for your daughter and your sister - both situations sound critical and serious! Keep us updated when you can! Btw, you and your husband have been in my prayers as well! Hope he's doing well!
It was good to see you though!

Renee, praying for your sister and your daughter. Yes, my dd26 has done this in the past, not only with medical bills. We took the "tough love" approach.

Praying for both.
What is your daughter's situation? Is she out living on her own, married? Does she have a job, or is she a student? Depending on her circumstances she may qualify for public assistance if her income is low enough.
If you can afford to help pay for part of the surgery, good. But make sure it is in the form of a loan which she must begin to make regular payments on as soon as she returns to work.
It is too late for her to buy insurance now to cover the surgery. It would be excluded as a pre-existing condition. Normally, insurance carriers drop you as soon as you miss a payment. It's not like a car loan or mortgage, where you can fall behind one or two months and then make it up and still keep you stuff.
Good luck with it. At least she will have a life lesson to ponder and hopefully after the surgery will see why insurance is important.

First I want to thank you all for "carrying" me along here with these two prayer intentions. I so appreciate every one of you!
My sister improved significantly after the critical care nurse inserted a pic line for her antibiotic cocktails to rid her of her serious bacterial infection. In fact, the hospital sent her on her merry way home(which never would have happened here in Canada so early!) with pic line and all and arranged a nurse to visit twice each day for a while. She still had the red spot along her neck. Doctors figured her laptop bag strap which was carried on that shoulder assisted in the "pain" she first encountered to feel it was her neck out of whack. Lucky thing for the chain reaction to get her to the hospital originally. She is recovery well so far with friends tending to her (she is a widow) and has two weeks to go before she can return to work, although she appreciates the opportunity to work from home.
Meanwhile my silly daughter has remedied her situation with her parent's coaching. For those who don't know our situation; we are a family divided after a work transfer took half of us across the country. This daughter was a concern to leave behind, she had one foot in with us to move and one foot to remain behind. She chose to stay behind. ''
We live in Canada and even with a pre-existing situation she is eligible to continue her medical right where she left off. The doctor at the clinic gave her some serious antibiotics to rid her of her discomfort quickly and gave her an appointment to a specialist which is not until later next month due to backlogs.
This whole situation has been a giant learning curve and one she has become very embarrassed about, especially after her older AND younger brothers and sisters, the medical staff and her close friends has chastised her over. Saving a few bucks during a career change/back to schooling decision just wasn't worth the emotional agony which resulted from a poor choice not to renew her medical in the first place. Our coaching was in the form of offering suggestion questions for the doctor and specialist, fact finding for obtaining a second opinion, obtaining the reinstatement of her medical (medical numbers stay the same no matter what length of time passes here) by a semi payment until her new medical takes effect at her new job later this month (she didn't even she would have coverage there until now), etc.. No monies have had to transfer from us to her and luckily the situation has worked itself out. She finds it a tough recovery from letting the infection linger too long (she thought some of her mother's remedies would suffice initially and was confident it would just ....go away. ugh).
If any of you have college or starving working young adults living away, take it from me to consider bringing up this topic ever so casually if the opportunity arises. It was the furthest thing we expected here, and happy to say, all worked out in the end.
Your prayers for interceding in these situations were no doubt responsible for the outcomes, so my heartfelt thanks again to all of you for yours.
As a caretaker to my husband's continuing regressing lung disease situation, these sudden and serious medical situations had me so emotionally worn, feeling tugged to fly out in different directions to assist, and just I'm just so relieved AND grateful both my lovelies are on the mend.
God bless!
