We learned this morning that my grandpa will more than likely pass away today/tonight. His name is Jon Rice and he is 86. It is a blessing really as he has suffered many complications from a stroke he had 7 years ago. This past year has been particularly bad and he has been in a nursing home for most of it. I just printed off some beautiful prayers for someone who is dying from this board - thank you to Maria, I think...now I'm not sure?? My sister and I are headed back to the home tonight to pray and be with him. His three sons (one being my dad) are all out of town this week! So another prayer request would be that they make it back quickly and safely. Thank you!

Aw, Erica......I am sorry. I am sure you will miss him. I am SO glad you and your sister get to be with him.......what a blessing for all of you! You and yours will be in our prayers, esp to Saint Joseph.

Thank you so much! I can feel the prayers and your kindness brings tears to my eyes! My grandpa did pass away last night. My sister and I were there with his wife, Bertha (my grandma passed away when I was 18). My brother had just been there and another sister came right after he passed. My children were all there during the day and were present for the Anointing of the Sick. My little Isabella, 4, said, "is that a real priest? He doesn't have the right clothes on." I think she meant Mass vestments because he did have a collar. Then she said to the priest, "Do you wear those shoes everyday?"  We all had a good laugh! I am so proud of my kids and their understanding of death and such. We've been to many funerals and it really is just a part of their life. Anyway, his passing was very peaceful and a wonderful reminder of my own mortality! My dad and his brothers were not able to make it back (maybe by choice), but they will all arrive in a day or so. He'll have a traditional Catholic Funeral with a Rosary and wake/party, which is a great comfort. It was truly a gift to be present at his passing, a little sad of course, but he is now out of pain and out of that nursing home!
