Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Please pray now, if you have a minute, for my dd. She just came home from dance class and is complaining of a severe headache and a "blank line" (small, but worrying) in the vision of her right eye.

My mom has serious vision problems that developed literally overnight, so I am worried.

Thanks.

She's never had a headache like this before. The location indicates a sinus headache...maybe someone who's had a migraine could tell me what one is like? (Where is the pain, etc.)

First, I'm praying, Nancy!

I get migraines and vision issues aren't at all uncommon with them, along with light and smell sensitivities. Generally the pain is on one side of the head - directly behind the right or left eye. Occasionally, it can roll, but not usually. Nausea is common.

A soft ice pack compress is helpful. I particularly like a little bit of gentle pressure over the area that hurts intensely. Low lights - a light blocking mask is nice. Excedrin for migraines is a good option if you have it, if not Ibuprofen (Advil or Motrin).

Hope she feels better soon!

She is feeling better...don't know if it was a headache, stomach bug, or what, or if this is a permanent or temporary turn for the better.

If she can get a decent night's sleep, I'll take that.

It all seemed either sinus- or migraine-related except that things resolved pretty quickly (3 hours). We can't really tell if this is due to sinus or migraine or other problems right now. She had a lot of nausea (unresolved) and just now felt well enough to eat a bit of homemade chicken soup (coincidentally - or not - on our menu plan for today, whew).

Heading up to bed...and I am so grateful for your prayers. Anything vision-related is scary...my mom has had NAION in both eyes and lost half the vision in each eye literally overnight. It is SO comforting to be prayed through things like this!
I am grateful.

Nancy:

Just now seeing this, and will be praying for your dd. Hope it is a quickly resolving issue that remains cleared up. I do think I'd still check it out just for peace of mind all the way around, especially in light of the family history. Vision and Eyesight issues are close to our heart here. St. Lucy pray for her. St. Theresa of Avila pray for her.

Oh, Nancy, it does sound so classically migraine. But I definitely understand your fear, given your mom's situation.

How did she sleep last night?

Fwiw, I have both sinus and migraine headaches. It's not uncommon for a sinus headache to trigger a migraine for me, so it's often hard to tell how to treat.

I will continue to pray for your dd and for you.

She slept well and feels fine today. No vision issues.

Her symptoms match up with those for migraines in children. We've talked about it - obviously, we hope this is a one-time event, but she knows to tell me if she has those vision issues again so we can get home to a dark room, cool cloth and tylenol right away.
