this is an odd request but my heart is burdened and I would feel so much better if someone else out there was helping lift up this wedding in prayer. an old, dear friend is marrying his live-in girlfriend this afternoon ... on the beach, with no one else present but an anonymous officiant who is doing it "as quickly as possible," and no one else knows, even their family back in Oregon (they have 4 young children between them). I am shocked but trying to be supportive and loving ... but am feeling a bit
I know some of you may not want to support such a non-sacramental marriage, but I have to hope for the best and believe God honors ... something in this. their love? desire for commitment? both went through painful divorces and neither have a faith to turn to. he is one of my oldest friends but we are so very different, I really don't know what to say to him. any prayers for them and this marriage would be very much appreciated.
(anybody know if there is a patron saint for cases like this I could turn to for intercession?)

Offering prayers for this new family, that it may be full of love, and joy, and a safe, secure home for the children involved.
In a world full of selfish people unwilling to commit to anything, God bless them for trying. Maybe this will truly work out for everyone.
And God bless you for caring enough to be burdened by it and ask for prayers!

Oh Viviane, your prayer request is heart-felt and loving. Please do trust that your prayer request will be received into the generous hearts of the members here and that many prayers are being said for this intention, many by those who are unable to post a reply.
I am praying for your friends and their children, all their loved ones, and for your peace in particular .
Love,

Praying!! What a difficult situation, I bet a lot of us here, including me, have been in your shoes, and have great empathy for your distress!! You came to the right place.

I have been thinking about this. If they are not Catholic, then they are not held to a Catholic wedding. This wedding is just as binding as my Protestant wedding, even before it was blessed in the Catholic church after my conversion. Do you know what I mean?
Praying for you and yours.

Praying...and I am glad they are getting married! This shows how committed they are to each other. That is a very, very good thing.

THANK YOU ALL, SO VERY MUCH!!!
I cannot tell you how comforted your words and prayers have made me ... bless you all for taking a moment amid such bigger requests to offer a prayer for my friend ... and me! (I honestly didn't realize when I posted this request that it was for me too.)
thank you for your kind support and prayers. I'd hug you all if I could.
PS: we're taking them to the beach today to celebrate in our own way: I baked them a "wedding cake" (a huge macadamia nut brownie with a kitschy Hawaiian couple as a topper) and we'll toast their union with mai tais (well, mix for our kids). your comments helped me separate the positives from my own "issues," and for that I am very grateful. (but perhaps the biggest help was knowing that they had some prayer warriors on their side as this wedding was performed .. even if THEY didn't know it.) mahalo nui loa!

I think their desire to commit to one another in marriage is evidence of God's grace working in their lives. I also think that your love and support, and your continued witness to Catholic marriage and family life as you are their friend will yield more graces for their family. God has a plan.

Oh, Viviane - I'm sorry I missed this! Adding my prayers on the back end!
You know, St. Monica prayed for her son St. Augustine faithfully in spite of his extremely wreckless behavior before his conversion. Her faithful prayers for one whose actions seem so far removed from the faith seem to make her a wonderful patron for your friends.
I'm so glad you are at a place of peace now!
You're a good friend to be so concerned and seek prayer to cover them during this time!
