My dear husband has a final interview tomorrow at 2 Eastern Time. After two and a half years of constant travel (he's home about 2 days a week on average) and more stress and loneliness than I care to ponder, this job would get him off the road. It's a job I think he'd love. It would also involve a huge relocation. Please pray that God's plan will be very clear to us and to the interviewer.

Elizabeth,
I'm praying, too...and I've relocated more times than I can count...my advice, for what it's worth, is to do your best to turn it all over to the Good Lord and not clean until there's a written job offer that your dh has accepted. Also, it's best not to try to get the kids interested in a move until you are 110% sure it will happen (but I know you know this).
I realize this takes a spine of steel and incredible strength of will...my prayers for you!
Your talk at the NACHE conference last year helped me a great deal; I hope my prayers will help you a little in return.
With hugs from a 19-year Navy bride...

Know nothing yet--he's in the middle of production now. He does three games tonight. Evidently, he's wedging phone calls back and forth during brief breaks. This is craziness. I'm a little tense

We'll be praying for you!! Nothing is worse than the unknown, just think how the apostles and Mary felt when they didn't really know what was going to happen to Jesus, or themselves for that matter. I know it's a little drastic of a comparison, but I thought fitting for our season of lent and darkness. Keep your chin up with all those beautiful children. You will be blessed no matter what the outcome.
St. Joseph, strength of families pray for us.

This morning, my husband left for England, taking the three big boys with him. We still don't know for certain about the job, though it does look like we'll be moving. A part of me wants to use the time that they are gone to really clean and declutter, etc. But I'm going to ignore that part of me and try to make it a fun time for my little ones who are left behind and who haven't really seen their dad for more than a few hours since mid-January. I think we all need some TLC. Maybe we'll hear news about the job while he's gone, maybe not. Apparently,God is really driving home that "who's in control" lesson that's been the theme of my life in the past couple of years Oh, and we haven't any heat in the main part of the house and the technician can't come "diagnose" until tomorrow, so Prayers for warmth might be good, too.

Elizabeth,
Prayers have been going up for you, especially in this time of uncertainty and the cold!
I myself must be an extremely slow learner, because God is always driving that theme "who's in control"...by now, wouldn't I have the answer down pat?

Thanks for the update, Elizabeth. The ole...who is in control lesson...I'm painfully familiar with that one . Our family fondly calls it the "2X4." Peter Kreeft, in his book Making Sense Out of Suffering has this nifty graph:
Blessedness -> Luxury -> Pride
Repentance <- Suffering <- Disaster
Now picture an arrow up from Repentance to Blessedness and one down from Pride to Disaster forming a circle. Further picture opposites (blessedness/disaster, luxury/suffering, pride/repentance)
Our family is trying to avoid luxury (entitlement) and pride, increase gratitude for our blessedness, live in repentance, then hopefully we'll be in a better place to deal with inevitable disaster and suffering. We're REALLY spiritual infants in so many ways yet God is so Good and Patient with us.
Your plan to provide TLC within your home sounds so loving and right to me. Your children are fortunate to have a mother willing to wrestle with "potential moving panic" and not let it win. Our prayers continue...you all are doing awesome under difficult circumstances.
Love,

This is a great graphic Angie.I think there is areal corollary between control and perfectionism and then perfectionism leads us right back to pride. Perfectionists expect to have control over their environment and their appearance and their schedules and their children and....well, the more you live, the more you realize how totally ridiculous this notion is. But the "habit" of perfectionism dies hard. That's where learning to relinquish control comes in. We bless each other when we don't expect perfection in ourselves or in those around us. With that giant limb gone from our eyes, we are better able to size up a situation and see what God wants from it. Usually, it's very different from the old "perfect" expectation.
If he gets this job and we put the house on the market, I will be back to the same situation that marked the beginning of my real trial with perfectionism/control. I followed nine months of having the house on the market, under constant scrutiny, with a pregnancy and then a birth which was unlike any other (a surprise c-section). Suddenly, all my ideas of how things should be and all my ideas about my ability to make them so, were turned upside down. What happened in the two years following that birth makes up the darkest threads of the tapestry of my life. But we DO need the darkness to get to the Light don't we? Hopefully, I've learned a thing or two and I won't let pride/perfectionism rob the joy again.

Is this when I confess to feeling selfish joy at the thought of your family moving west? Just ask chari, I have an expanded sense of what makes up the "west coast" and am convinced that any state that touches a coastal state counts...and gee...since Utah touches Arizona...
Prayers continue,
