We feel so blessed to have made friends with this wonderful family. They have truly welcomed us to this country and our daughters are like two peas in a pod! We have even been welcomed by the grandparents as well as the extended family. When we arrived back from holiday, they were so happy to see us, they had us over after adoration/mass last week.
Tonight after adoration/mass/choir practice, our friend told us that his fil was diagnosed with prostate cancer today. This is such a dear man who truly has had many health problems in the recent past, but has been doing well lately. We were so shocked as tonight is the last night that their youngest son is in town before leaving for Austria tomorrow to attend the John Paul II Institute.
I know that this family will accept whatever God has planned for them, but I ask that you pray for this family and especially for the fil. My heart is so heavy now.
Update 10/7
Our friend has been taking hormones to keep the cancer growth from spreading while waiting for surgery for a previous problem (colitus). We learned tonight that his surgery is scheduled for Thursday. Michael is 72 and a very faithful Catholic. Please if you could, say a prayer for him that his surgery will be successful and that he will be able to recovery quickly so they can work with the cancer situation.
Thank you so much.
Update 10/10
Michael was in surgery for over 7 hours. He is currently in ICU. Most of his family will be here this weekend to visit with him, but I think he can only have older members visiting for brief periods. Hopefully, he will be moved out of ICU and then spend a couple of weeks in hospital before going home.
I am not certain what will happen after that regarding the cancer treatment. I will update as I know. Thank you for your prayers.
Update 10/17
Michael went home from the hospital on Monday after the surgery. Amazing! But I found out that he has an infection around the wound and it could be MRSA ... we won't know until Tuesday. It seems that he has had it before with a previous surgery. We have been staying away from visiting because we have various and sundry stages of cold and flu and don't want make him sick! I think other than fighting this infection, he feels pretty well.
Update 10/27
Michael's infection has cleared up! He is up and moving around (which is pretty great since it is a major surgery he had). I guess one of the side effects is that his taste buds are gone, so eating is not so pleasurable anymore. But he is continuing to eat and recovering quite well. He continues to take the hormones for the cancer treatment.
He is a bit down in that he is not recovering as quickly as he thinks he should (doesn't that sound like a man). We continue to pray for his recovery and for the battle against cancer. Thank you so much for your prayers!
Update 11/13
Sorry to be begging for prayers, but it turns out that Michael is back in the hospital. He seems to have abdominal leakage that is causing a hugh infection. The doctors are not certain where the leakage is, but he is basically on feeding tube (right into his blood stream)and antibiotics. They think he may be in the hospital for 4 weeks ... such a long time.
Anyway, I ask for prayers not only for his recovery, but that he maintain good spirits throughout this healing process. Than you so much for all of your prayers and I will lift each of you up in my evening Rosary.
Update 12/20
Sorry that it has been so long, but I am happy to report that Michael has gone home! He has another surgery in which they found the hole and stitched it up. He did not feel to well after that because he was so drained, but after much rest, the infection has cleared and he is at home with his family.
We are all truly excited since it is just in time for Christmas. His son who lives in Mexico is here and his other son who is at JPII in Austria is joining them tomorrow. God has truly answered all of our prayers!
He does still have the cancer to face, but I am just so glad that he is well and home for Christmas. Thank you all for your prayers! And please continue to pray for his cancer treatment.

My Dad lived with this type of cancer and received a similar type treatment for a number of years with very few side effects; he passed away last year from something unrelated, and at that point the cancer was undetectable. I pray the same for your friend's fil.

I've been praying, Carole! That ICU time is hard. Praying it passes quickly and that he improves each day.
