Hello everyone,
We have just been told that our baby's umbilical cord has only 2 vessels instead of the normal 3 (1 vein, 1 artery instead of 1 vein, 2 arteries). I would appreciate if you could keep our little one in your prayers and if anyone out there has any information on this or has been through it, please let me know. It's hard to find information on the subject as it is fairly rare (1%) from what I hear. Our doctor doesn't seem to be too concerned. She's just having me come in twice a week after 32 weeks gestation (right now we're at 28 weeks) for checks. It's a shock to us that something's not "normal." I'm sure you understand.
Thanks for your prayers!
Christine

Christine,
We will be praying for you and the baby. Wow! I just looked at your signature line. What a feast day to be due on...St. John Bosco will certainly intercede. Wow..he was a saint who truly knew and loved children!
God bless,
Marybeth

Prayers coming your way for this little one. Although there is a slight association with urinary tract development, SUA (Single Umbilical Artery) is usually a normal variation especially if there is nothing else visible in the ultrasound. It sounds like babies who have other problems often have SUA-but babies who have SUA don't usually have any other problem. Does that make sense? I know that I know someone whose baby had SUA but for the life of me I can't recall now who it was - I guess I've worked with too many mom's and babies through the years. Here is a link I found to a Dr.'s forum where some parents who had experienced SUA posted their experiences (all positive outcomes). Peace to you, Christine.

Thank you all for your prayers and words of encouragement...it is comforting to me. There were no other abnormalities seen on the ultrasound, so it seems that all might just be fine. Now if I can just convince myself of this...
God bless,
Christine

Hello everyone!
I wanted to post an update
Our baby was born at the end of January (now is 2 months old).
John Joseph is a healthy baby boy No known complications for him and none during labor and delivery either!
My family appreciates all the prayers and help that we were given during the months of uncertainty before he was born. THANK YOU!!!
God bless,
Christine

Christine,
What wonderful news. Congratulations. I was just thinking about this a week or so ago and wondered how everything had gone. So thanks for the update.
