Ok families, friends, prayer warriors...
My dh went into start his new job today and his contract was cancelled.
Would you please pray for us?
Steve started retraining for a new profession in classes over the weekend...but in the meantime, how do we eat and pay the bills?
Thank you,

Maria,
This is totally not funny . You had a sense this would be the case, didn't you? Saying my favorite St. Joseph prayers for you both.

Thank you Erica and Elizabeth....
I did have a sense that this would happen. I told a friend today that this must be our scourging at the pillar...we feel hit on all sides right now as we're having a lot of familial difficulties and there's no support for our living and homeschooling.
So, Steve is going to go check out Costco, Home Depot, Target. He got a phone call this pm from a recruiter who is interested in him for a help desk position - however, he said that she didn't seem to have her facts straight and that this sounded as if it would be with Kaiser. After this, he has said, he'll never work for them again.
Thank you very much for the prayers. Somehow we will get through this. I have been to food banks and I really don't want to have to go back and Friday Steve was told by a woman at the unemployment office that he could go on welfare. It is sick.
Anyway, I have to get the treasures to soccer.
We have food and shelter for today. I may not even be here tomorrow so I musn't worry.
Thank you very much for the prayers.
Love and God Bless,

Maria,
I am so sorry! I wish there were some way to help other than prayer. Not that prayer isn't powerful help, but I am thinking something more tangible.
Please don't hesitate to ask. Gift cards to a local grocery or Walmart, maybe? We may be spread out across the country but this forum is a true community that wants to help.

Praying!!! I hope it's a small comfort.
I'll especially pray that the Blessed Mother, who had to leave her home and husband's employment, will pray for you and your family. I'm sure she knows just how you feel right now.

This was my thought, too, Molly. We can rally round hurricane victims, no? We can also rally round economy victims. We're here, Maria ....

Maria, what an inspiring attitude! We are praying for a door to open and stay opened!
And please consider the gift card idea. We are more than happy to help out! That is what community is all about.

Ladies,
I went to bed last night after reading your words and I actually slept a decent night's sleep for the first time in a while.
Thank you.
To be honest, I accept your offer of the gift cards because we are in need of things. Steve's unemployment benefits have run out (he can renew his claim on November 15 - but in the meantime ) and since we've been on this roller coaster for awhile we no longer have savings, CD's or 401K's to dip into. This is why I'm trying to get my voice work going - it's something I can do at the computer from home (or my friend's house who actually has the equipment and has offered me the use of it)...I had offered to go back to work to help but my dh was adamant that he wanted me to stay home and homeschool (which is what I really want, too). Yesterday, after he came home, he put some calls out and then went to Mass at noon. One of my friends said, "What a man! He didn't go to the pub to drown his sadness!" When he came home, I put my arms around him and said this to him and gave him a kiss. Sometimes, I don't appreciate him nearly enough.
I am nervous about posting my address in so public a forum - not because of anyone here but simply because it's public. Should I email you each individually?
My computer time will be limited only cause Steve is looking for work - so just let me know if you have any ideas.
I can't tell you how much I appreciate your offers of help.
I know that one day, things will not be so hard for us and I look forward to being able to be in a position of helping. Last night, at my older two girls' soccer practice, I thought about how kids used to wear junkie clothes to play in (mine still do) so as to not be worried about tears, stains, etc....I liked those times for what was taught...
Anyway, better run. Dh needs the computer.
Love, thanks and God Bless,

Maria,
I am so sorry for your cross. You words in the midst of this are such an inspiration to me. Thank you for showing me how saints do walk among us unnoticed mostly and with sweet and gentle spirits. Please PM me b/c we most certainly want to help.
May Mother Mary help you lift this burden and place her mantle of protection around your family.
Marybeth

Nancy had the idea that maybe someone could coordinate the effort, such as using a Paypal account to take donations. Maybe someone in CA? Or, Maria, do you have a Paypal account that we could just donate to?
I would spearhead this, but we are FINALLY moving next week (I will believe it when it's over), and I am still barely functional with this pregnancy. Nobody wants me to be in charge of anything! Trust me. I just thought it might be easier this way. Or not?!
Any thoughts?
