Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

The baby is 4 weeks old & I've had mastitis twice! I have been on antibiotics twice! I woke up this morning with a very tender bre*st! Please pray I can nip this in the bud before an infection begins. I'm going to bed to drink, nurse, rest, repeat, hot bath...and may send dh to town to get some lecithin.

Poor dear...I've been there so I'm praying with a lot of sympathy. A link from kellymom.com:

Recurrent Mastitis or Plugged Ducts

Oh, Jenny. I've had this once - I can't imagine your situation facing it multiple times! Praying that all is ok, now!

Any updates?

I've been reading the prayer requests this morning, while still on a restricted computer schedule and praying for everyone's intentions - so much going on.

I felt compelled to respond to your post Jenny. I had recurrent mastitis with my Sophie. I never took antibiotics and was able to nip those initial symptoms in the bud by following the wonderful advice already given here to drink, nurse, and rest. My midwife urged me to drink 3qt. water every day. I also found it really helpful, at the onset of symptoms, to dose myself with ginger tea and Knudsen "Just Cranberry" - you can even combine the two in a large batch and chug away. The ginger is a natural anti-inflammatory and the cranberry juice is a naural antibiotic. The "Just Cranberry" has no sweeteners and no other juices blended with it, so it packs a real punch.

I use this remedy for every time we get a little bit of anything now - colds, nasty boo-boos... I have even used it to nip a UTI in the bud (for myself).

Praying to Our Lady of La Leche that you will soon be feeling better - and stay that way.

Blessings,

I, too, have had mastitis with every baby, so I know how awful it can get. I ended up in the hospital with it once due to the prescribed antibiotics not working, and me thinking I should just give it more time. I had to have IV antibiotics and a 2 day hospital stay. The good news was, I was completely fine after that. It was like night and day and I felt like a new person. I will keep you in my prayers, Jenny!

Thank you for all your prayers! I was able to avoid full blown infection. I added a moist heating pad to the above suggestions.

Nissa, thanks for the "cocktail" info, I'll remember that! I definately need to drink more water as well.
