Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

If you wouldn't mind saying a quick prayer, I would appreciate it. Someone set 1 or more grass fires last night in my county. The low humidity and high winds here have caused the fires to flare back up and there is one large pocket that is 7 miles from my house. Please pray for all of the firefighters working tirelessly to save people and homes. Thank you, and please know that even if I don't post on your prayers requests I do read them and keep you and your needs in my prayers.

Praying...I grew up in SoCal, so I know how scary brush fires can be.

Thank you so much for all of your prayers. The fires are still raging. We haven't been evacuated, but my dh said that we should load the car tonight with those things that we would want/need to take with us if someone knocked on the door in the middle of the night and gave us 5 minutes to get out.

So far over 70 homes have been damaged or destroyed, and 1 firefighter has gone to the hospital. The governor has declared a state of emergency, so we can get help from other areas of the state. The sickest part of it all is that someone deliberately set the original fire. Makes me sick to my stomach at the loss b/c of someone's deliberate action. Fortunately no one has lost their life as of yet. Please continue to pray that that remains the case. Loss of property is awful, but it would be worse if people lose their lives. And many people are staying in their homes trying to fight to save the house - scary.

How scary and sad, Cindy! Praying for you all, for all of the families affected, and for the firefighters. May God bless them abundantly for the work that they do.

Cindy, I have been praying and will continue to pray. I'm so glad you all are taking good care of yourselves under such horrible conditions. Thank you and please continue to keep us posted.

Love,

I talked to Cindy last night and the fires were still not contained and they were 4 miles away. Chris had the car packed in case they had to evacuate in the middle of the night.

I can't thank you enough for the prayers. Right now it looks like the fires are about 40% contained. There are over 60 homes that are uninhabitable out of the 170 that were damaged/destroyed. There are 3 firefighters in the hospital. So far we are doing fine. This morning the police arrested a "person of interest" - it seems someone saw him throw something out of his car and then driving off. Shortly after a fire began burning. They are thinking that he might have something to do with the other fires that were set. I really hope that this is the guy and that the firefighters can now concentrate solely on getting the fires contained.

Now we are just praying for some rain to miraculously arrive - with God all things are possible!
