Please pray for Eddie, a handicapped teen who was thrown from a horse during therapeutic riding. He has a broken jaw, severe lacerations to his upper and lower lips and a concussion. His doctors are consulting with his neurologist to determine the best course of action.

Here's an update from Eddie's mom:
Thank you for your prayers. They are helping us to keep a sense of peace and calm through this new struggle for Eddie. He had a complete break of the mandibular condile at the stem -- this is the part of the jaw that articulates with the skull by the ear. We had four possible choices to consider and we have taken a somewhat conservative route. Eddie will have surgery tomorrow to place a peg tube to feed him directly into his stomach. This reduces the risk of aspiration of fluid into his lungs as a result of the trauma to his mouth. Once the peg is placed, we will schedule another procedure that will require anesthesia, yet again, to place small screws in his upper and lower jaw. His mouth will be wired shut for several weeks to allow the mandible to hopefully realign on its own due to immobilization of the joint. This procedure takes about 1 1/2 hrs. vs. the more invasive surgery to reset the joint with pins and a metal plate -- a process that involves much more time under anesthesia and higher risk over all with a limited amount of increased benefit or success.
Please continue to pray for Eddie, the doctors and our family as we adjust to "life as normal now" in our home. God spared us a greater disaster from Eddie's fall and has kept him calm and happy through all of this. We are truly blessed and are so grateful for all of your prayers.

Came here looking for an update - thanks! :-)
Sound very traumatic, but glad to hear there is no brain injury.
Continuing to pray...

Here's the new update from Eddie's mom:
We had a very difficult day. The struggles today were very frustrating. They made a mistake on the amount of his feeding through the new g-tube. Eddie vomitted and may have aspirated into his left lung. This is not a good scenario to prepare for what seemed today like a surgery that would never be scheduled! Sigh. But, other than having a situation with Eddie's lungs that may delay surgery, we now have a team of professionals willing to listen to our concerns and address Eddie's specific needs. We also managed to get a top notch oral surgeon (yes, we had issues with finding an appropriate surgeon) to do the surgery on his jaw. His assessment of the situation will happen tomorrow.
On the up side of all of this, had Eddie not thrown up they would not have seen the need to keep him in the hospital to monitor his feeding issues. His guardian angel was working overtime today to make sure that he remained in the hospital where he would be safe and under the proper care and supervision of medical professionals.
Please continue to pray as we try to navigate the medical issues and make sure that we advocate appropriately for our son without losing our sanity!
