My first prayer request is for my daugther who will be starting the driving portion of driver's education. She is 17 and needs to have her license by next August to drive herself to the Community College for her Culinary Arts classes. I think that by the time all 7 have learned to drive I will be completely gray due to nerves.
My second request is for myself. I have not driven since getting into a car accident last November that left me petrified of getting back behind the wheel. I feel that at this point it is a lack of faith and a spirit of fear that is keeping me from driving. It seems that my fears multiply with each pregnancy and new baby. Again, this is a lack of faith as ultimately my children are in God's hand not my own.
Beside asking for your prayers in this area I would appreciate any advice you have. Thanks.

Laura,
I'll pray for you. I don't think you have any lack of faith. I was in 2 accidents (totals) and dh was in 2 (totals with injuries to my dh) in the space of 5 or 6 years. It takes a lot of time get psychologically and physically ready to drive again. It's just the way our bodies and minds are. With prayer and time you'll get back to it and your faith will be stronger just because you are relying on God throughout it all; both when you can't drive and again when you can. I'll pray for dd too!

Praying for your daughter. I saw a study on T.V. about teenage drivers, their brain development at 16 versus 17 or 18, and other factors and statistics. What I concluded was that it would be much better to have our kids wait just that one year or so before getting their license, so she's good in that department. I was also in an accident in college that totalled my little V.W. bug and the one helpful thing is that I've driven a big car now for, gosh, 10 years. I feel much safer for some reason.
How do you get around if you haven't driven for that long? God bless you! And, I'll pray that you'll be able to get behind the wheel soon.

Erica,
Yes, a big car is definately safer. I was in a Suburban when I had the accident and I had more then one person point out to me that the Suburban saved Shayna's life. This in itself made me shakey. Ultimately, God is in control. Yes, it was good that I was in a Suburban, but I need to just fully trust that He is in control to get over this fear.
How do I get around? I stay home! During the week dh and I will run the bread/milk/egg runs and we save all big shopping for the weekend.
We are definately a home centered family.
The only negative things about this are:
1. No fun field trips during the week
2. My husband hates to run errands
3. The kids miss my driving because we used to go out for little fun outings to the bookstore etc...
My husband has been back on shore duty since the accident so it works. When he goes back out to Sea next September I will have to drive.
To make this more clear...even when I was driving I hated driving and was just starting to build up my confidence level when the accident happened.
The positive: We do alot of walking! The neighbors here think we are crazy because walking is truly a lost art! We walk only about a mile to the doctors/dentist/library and they think that is insane.

Hey, if your daughter gets her license soon, you may not ever have to drive again!
