Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Please storm heaven for the little guy. His godmother just sent me this message

Jack is very sick today. His heart stopped this a.m. and he needed resuscitation. He needs lots of prayers, and so do his parents, for strength and peace and God's guidance in making decisions about what to do to best help Jack. Would you please pass this information on to those who would like to pray for Lisa, Chris and Jack? I'm not sure when Lisa will be able to update the carepage.

Just since no one else has mentioned this, on our homeschool group list there was an update saying that Jack's heart had actually slowed earlier but not stopped and that things were looking better this afternoon. I'm sure they could still use prayers with all the challenges he's had, but just to help anyone who might have been especially "worried..."

Thanks for clarifying, Theresa. I saw that update too. But then later this evening on the Care Page, Jack's mom wrote that his heart rate was so low this morning that he "coded" and had to be resuscitated. So it really was pretty serious. She wrote that he was in septic shock this morning and is doing better now but is not out of the woods yet. She was very appreciative of all the many prayers that have been offered up for her son.

This is the update I just had from his parents:

"I'm happy to report that Jack is slowly and steadily recovering. The antibiotics seem to be working, his vascular/heart function seems to be good, and so far there are no signs of any big damage. We have the usual issues of weaning on the vent, which is going well so far, getting rid of fluid (from the huge amount of blood & meds he had to get yesterday), which is also going well, so far. I was reminded today that not many kids or adults recover from such severe septic shock. So far, (to repeat the caution-theme) Jack's done it twice. Unbelievable. I'm not so sure about the recovery of his friends and family. It takes us awhile to absorb Jack's drama and ponder God's plan in all this.

On that theme...there was more drama this morning. When Jack's mediport was removed yesterday, apparently they did not get it all. There was about a 2-3 inch piece that had adhered to the vessel and was thought to be encased in tissue and shouldn't come out. (Another accessory for Jack, we had resigned ourselved to...) Well, I got a call this morning that it had dislodged, and had migrated to his heart (!) and was causing some irregular heart rhythms. Apparently not too big of a deal, but they wanted to get it out asap. They snaked something through his femoral line with a little basket on it, captured it, and got it out uneventfully. Phew. As one of his long-time docs said this morning, "If there's something bizarre that can go wrong, it's going to happen to JACK." Jaaaacccckkk.

So we keep plugging away for him, in prayerful hope that he will soon be happy and home again. In God's time. Speaking of, if we had gotten Jack home sooner, I'm not sure if he would have made it through this event - would we have gotten him in and treated in time? Who knows. It was similar to last year's episode, when his own internal bacteria started overgrowing on his indwelling central line. Anyway...Jesus, I trust in you! And a big AMEN to the writings of Jack's advocate and our dear friend, JPII - thanks for writing it, Kathy. Perfect."

Please keep praying.
