Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

My aunt was admitted to a hospital in Ohio last Sunday because she was disoriented and uncoordinated. She has been battling breast cancer in various forms for over 20 years now. The latest reappearance came as a brain tumor and cancer in her spine. Earlier in the summer, she had surgery to implant a steel rod in her spine so that she could continue to receive treatments for the cancer (it had weakened her vertebrae so much that they had started breaking). I so admire her dependence on the Lord to get her through all of this. They have only asked, through the years, that we keep praying. It's amazing. I have copied the latest report from my uncle below. Please, please keep her in your prayers. We would all like to be with her this Christmas. Oh, and I think my uncle could use prayers too. He seems pretty sad right now.

Blessings,
Betsie

Yesterday, I asked for a meeting with the doctors to hear their diagnosis first hand. They came to see Sue around 7:00 am, so I had it second hand from her, and I didn't want to miss anything. They said she has a pulmonary embolism in a medium sized vessel in the lower right lung. It likely moved there from her leg. Blood thinners will not have much effect on it. She's being given those to prevent more clots from forming. They said the first one is usually not too bad, but a second one can be pretty serious. The clot will eventually be partially reabsorbed and colleteral vessels will form to replace the blocked one. This process can take up to six months. She must remain in the hospital until they can reduce the amount of oxygen she needs. They're recommending release to a skilled nursing facility where she can get the concentrated rehab she needs to be independent again. The average stay is 7 - 10 days and it will be in the Strongsville area, which will mean much less driving for me. We had hoped she could just come home, but until she can do steps, she can't even get into the house, let alone to the bedroom. I'm not sure I could give her the best care by myself right now, anyway.

Guess that's about it for now. Keep the prayers coming!

Dan

Betsie,
I am praying for your aunt. My aunt has cancer, too, and I will remember your aunt in my Rosary each day...
