Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

It's me begging for prayers again - I feel like I am going down with it again - despite having taken antibiotics - this time I hope I can nip it in the bud - am taking the homeopathic, vit c, drinking water etc - but dh is in the midst of a major crisis at work, so staying in bed is not an option. At least we have finished our soccer games for the weekend.

Praying Marilyn!

I would often get mastitis in 2's...a different antibiotic usually took care of it (at least for awhile!). But I wasn't as naturally minded then. Hope you feel better soon!!

Marilyn-

This time ask for Dicloxacillin. It will do the job for good. You are at risk for getting resistant bacteria if you take another suboptimal antibiotic.

You poor thing. I am so sorry. Hang in there with your husband's situation.

Hope I don't sound too bossy!

Sarah - I asked the doctor - they still will not give me dicloxillin - have called in Ceftin or Keftin which is 7 days only. I did ask about a 10 day thing and for Dll. I feel so stressed - I really like my OB (he delivered the last 2) and I do not want to get all demanding. Thanks for the prayers

Marilyn, Because food allergies run in your family, you might want to read this.

I'm so sorry to hear you are going through this again.

Do you by any chance have allergies or sensitivities to penicillin? If so, that would be why your doc is staying with cephalosporin antibiotics. While the penicillinase-resitant penicillin like cloxacilin or dicloxacillin are often considered first, the cepholosporins like the first one you were on (cephlexin) are also considered effective in most cases of mastitis. The current one that was prescribed is not one I have seen in association with treating breast infections even though it is a second generation cephalosporin. If there is not a problem with penicillin allergy then the cloxacilin or dicloxacillin should be considered since this is a recurrance.

A 10-14 day course is considered standard. A shorter course of antibiotics is associated with a greater likelihood of relapse.

You can also check with the baby's pediatrician for a second opinion. I know some pediatricians will prescribe for mom with mastitis. Or anyone else you could check with for a second opinion? You could also just quote some information from some respected sources (Newman, Lawrence, Walker) as to the importance of treatment for 10-14 days and cloxacilin or dicloxacillin being suggested option. "In looking at recommended treatments I have found that ..."

Also, since you are having a recurrant bout there are numberous factors to look at that might be contributors and possible precautions to take for prevention in the future. We could go over those when you're feeling better.

Thank you all for prayers. I managed to fight it off without antibiotics this time round - the fever broke and I did get rest, hot showers and lots of water. I also talked to the OB and got his reasons for the medication - which I have if there is a recurrence. This has been a tough few weeks - and yes Jenn I think it is allergy related as I am having allergic reactions to everything I eat or breathe!! I think it will all settle down once my hormones settle down and immune system builds up again. I am not a patient sufferer - but I am offering up for all the intentions on this board and so many people who need prayer around me.

Thank you again for all your concern and prayers.
