Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Please pray for my father and for discernment for his team of doctors over the next few days. Dad needs a liver transplant (cancer), and the doctors are currently evaluating him and running MANY tests to help determine risk/candidacy for a transplant. Thank you!

Praying here, too, Janette. I've got a little cancer group going, so I'll add your father to it. I also have a little grandfather group going, so he fits in there too!

E-

We found out today that he needs more tests than the doctors can fit in by tomorrow, so he will be staying at least another week while my MIL flies back to Miami on Sunday.

He/They are not living with us yet, but will probably move here as the time approaches. They were told yesterday that he will have to live IN Houston for a month or so AFTER the transplant.

Thank you all for your prayers, and please don't stop!    What we thought would be a few days of tests turned into two weeks of poking, injecting, withdrawing and testing. My father has had more done to him than we knew existed! The current sad news is that it does not look like he will be given a transplant, and it doesn't look like they got all the cancer out when they did the radio ablation back in June. Right now, the options are unclear. My father is trying to get answers and recommendations from his various doctors to see what should be done.

Please pray in specific that he will have the emotional strength to have a closed MRI done. It is truly necessary at this point, but he is closterphobic and gets panic attacks. We are hoping that they can mildly sedate him for the test. He is a large man, and the MRI tube is so small.

He specifically has asked for prayers that he will have peace and will willingly and with a good/happy attitude bear whatever the future holds. He does not want to be grumpy or difficult.

Thank you all for your prayers!

God bless,

Thank you, ladies, for your continued prayers and concern! Methodist Hospital denied him the transplant, but weren't clear as to why. He has since found out that they are very conservative and don't accept many patients.

Early this week he finished another round of tests in Miami, and they found that he does currently have a tumor in his liver. (In July, he'd had a radio ablation that had killed what cancer they found back then.) The VA Hospital is evaluating him for a transplant in Pittsburgh. That process will take about 4 weeks. His doctor also suggested that he submit himself to another hospital, so he's trying to see if he can be evaluated by Mount Sinai in NYC. He is hoping to hear from them today as to whether or not they will interview him. Please continue to pray! His energy is still better than it was over summer, but the testing takes so much out of him.

While I'm at it, I'll ask for prayers for my mother and grandmother too. My grandmother (89) cares for her son (He has MS, diabetes, feeding tube, constant oxygen, and must have his lungs suctioned regularly through a trach.). After much searching, they found a lady to help during the day, and another to help at night. (Previously, my mother cared for him at night, while teaching at UofM during the day. Don't know how she managed on 3-4 hours sleep a night!) Anyway, both helpers are leaving in November. Please pray that my mother and grandmother will be able to find good replacement help. Caring for my uncle is not easy, and not many are willing to take on such a task. Thank you!

Praying!

I've recently learned a little about the liver transplant process (how you get on a hospital's transplant list) and it's kind of unnerving to think that a critically ill person has to go through all of these tests and evaluations. I'll pray for renewed strength and peace for your dad.

Thank you all for your prayers!

My father is in NYC right now and has an appointment this morning with the head of liver transplants at Mount Sinai. At the moment, it looks like he will probably not be a candidate for transplant because of tumor size (too big). But we remain hopeful and in prayer for peace with God's will.

This afternoon at 1pm, he will go through chemo embolization (sp?). They go in through a leg vein and inject chemo into the vein that supplies blood to the tumor. This should stop the flow of blood and kill the tumor.

Please pray especially for him and for my mother. Thank you all!
